Carson City 7th graders collect bags and supplies for rural foster children
Seventh-grade science students from Ashley Killeen’s class at Carson Middle School in Carson City completed a donation drive today that benefits foster children in rural Nevada.
Representatives from the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services including Ross Armstrong, administrator, and Lori Nichols, a licensed social worker and recruiter, were there to accept the items.
From March 25 through April 5, Killeen’s 22-student class collected duffel bags and backpacks to be filled with donated crayons and coloring books, coats, fast-food gift cards, blankets and small stuffed animals as part of a service project.
The collected items will help the foster children, who range in age from newborn to age 18, that the agency serves in Carson City and 15 rural counties.
“We have more than 400 children in rural Nevada foster care,” Nichols said. “We’re grateful for Ms. Killeen and her students for providing these items for our kids. This drive also provides an opportunity to bring awareness to the need of foster families in Nevada’s rural communities.”
