Carson City 7th graders collect bags and supplies for rural foster children

Seventh-grade science students from Ashley Killeen’s class at Carson Middle School in Carson City completed a donation drive today that benefits foster children in rural Nevada.

Rural Nevada foster care subject of Carson City Soroptimist Program Luncheon Feb. 27

Carson City Soroptimist will feature Lori Nichols as speaker during its Program Meeting on Wednesday, February 27, 12-1 p.m. at Glen Eagles Restaurant. This meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required. There is no charge to attend, however, a plated lunch with choice of entrees, selected in advance, is available for $16.

Linda Buchanan, the owner of Catmandu, had no idea (or interest in) how to run an animal nonprofit. But in 2014 when her husband, Kurt, died, she felt untethered. They had not only been partners in marriage, but partners in business as well.

Former foster child shares story ahead of May 15 foster parent information panel in Carson City

The public is invited to attend the next Foster Parent Information Night Panel in Carson City scheduled for Tuesday, May 15 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Carson City Library, 900 North Roop Street.

Lyon and Storey Coalition Hosts Speakers from Foster Care Recruitment and Mobile Crisis Response Team

The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties will have 3 guest speakers for their February breakfast meeting. The meeting is on Thurs February 9th at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center.

Speakers include Lori Nichols from Foster Care Recruitment, and Sally Hazard from the Fernley office for the Advanced Foster Care Program. They will explain the pressing need for foster homes in the Lyon and Storey County region, and offer ways to help increase the number of foster parents.
