Carson City area road report for week of April 18-24

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of April 18-24, 2016. Work will continue on the Downtown Corridor improvement project on Carson Street. Motorists can expect the following closures this week:

— Musser will be closed from Carson Street to Curry.
— Spear and Proctor will be open.
— Robinson to the east will be closed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Downtown businesses are open during construction. For details regarding traffic impacts from the Downtown Carson Street project, please refer to the material provided in local media outlets or go to carsonproud.com for more information. These sources are updated weekly throughout the duration of the project.

Lane closures with flagger controlled traffic at the following locations due to utility work from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.:

— Center Drive, south of Clear Creek Avenue, Monday-Friday
— E. 5th Street between Stewart and Roop Streets, Tuesday

Road closures expected at the following locations due to utility/road work please follow detours:
— Division Street between Fleischmann Way and Long Street, Monday-Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Long Street between Division and Mountain Streets, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Mountain Street between Long Street and Fleischmann Way, Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Arrowhead Drive between Goni Road and Emerson Drive, Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Bigelow Drive between Snyder Avenue and Track Drive, Monday-Sunday, for all hours
— Topsy Lane between Center Drive to U.S. 395, Monday-Sunday, for all hours

Periodic, nighttime, lane and ramp closures will take place on southbound I-580 and alternate U.S. 395 in southern Washoe Valley throughout the summer, includes northbound and southbound ramp closures for Bellevue Bridge.

The following Sierra and Lake Tahoe area road report is from Caltrans for the week of April 17-23, 2016. State Route 89 (Placer County): Work is set to resume on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected by spring 2017.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Elizabeth Drive to Tahoe Tavern Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to noon Friday at various locations for grinding and paving work.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work has resumed on an $8 million project from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue in Tahoma, installing curb and gutter and drainage systems to collect and treat stormwater. The highway is also being resurfaced. The project will be completed this spring.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Meeks Creek to Wilson Avenue: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday for pavement work.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work has resumed on Placer County’s “Core of the Core” phase of the $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. Highway work includes installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from the junction with State Route 267 to Beaver Street: Westbound motorists can expect the No. 1 lane closed from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work. Traffic will be shifted to the two-way left turn lane.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $57 million project by El Dorado County to construct a new overcrossing over U.S. Highway 50, new on- and off-ramps with signalized intersections, and new bicycle and pedestrian facilities at Silva Valley Parkway in El Dorado Hills. Completion is expected in late spring or early summer.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Brassie Avenue to Agate Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday for crack sealing work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Union Mine Road South to Union Mine Road North: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) at South Street: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for utility work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) at Missouri Flat Road: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday for utility work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from the Eagle Rock picnic area to Big Chico Creek: Motorists can expect shoulder closures at various locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday for fence and drainage work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Brockway Avenue to Blue Lake Avenue in South Lake Tahoe: Westbound motorists can expect the No. 2 lane and right shoulder closed around the clock from 9 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Friday for utility work.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Tahoe Tavern Road to the Tahoe City Caltrans Maintenance Yard: Motorists can expect the auxiliary lane and right shoulder closed from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday for survey work.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) at Rock Creek Road: Motorists can expect long-term signalized one-way traffic control for emergency repair work, which is scheduled to be completed by July.

State Route 267 (Placer County) from Martis Peak Road to Brockway Summit: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday for guardrail repair.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Sierra College Boulevard to Newcastle Road: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures and on-ramp closures from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday through Saturday for bridge work. Motorists also can expect one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday on the Brace, Gilardi, Horseshoe Bar, King, Penryn and Magra overcrossings for bridge work.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Lager Beer Viaduct to .35 miles north of Lager Beer Viaduct: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for lane closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. until May 6 for retaining wall construction.

State Route 20 (Nevada County) from the junction with SR 174 to the WB off ramp to Bennett Street: Motorists can expect left turn lane on the off ramp and lane one of the surface street overnight closures from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday April 18 through Wednesday April 20 for utility work.

State Route 49 (Yuba/Sierra County) from Marysville Road to Yuba Pass summit: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for lane and shoulder closures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday April 18 through Thursday April 21 for miscellaneous work.

State Route 49 (Placer County) from Millhouse Drive to Birchville/Tyler Foote Road: Motorists can expect lane and right shoulder closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday April 18 for crack seal operations.

Interstate 80 – Eastbound – (Nevada/Placer County) from Camp Spaulding to the Kingvale undercrossing: Motorists can expect alternating lane and shoulder closures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday April 18 for drainage work.

Interstate 80 – Westbound – (Nevada/Placer County) from Kingvale to the Yuba Gap overcrossing: Motorists can expect alternating lane and shoulder closures from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday April 20 to 21 for drainage work.

Interstate 80 – Westbound – (Nevada/Placer County) from Donner Lake Interchange to Kingvale undercrossing: Motorists can expect right lane and right shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday April 19 for striping operations.

Interstate 80 – Westbound – (Nevada/Placer County) from the I-80/Rte. 89S junction to CA Agricultural Inspection Station: Motorists can expect right lane and right shoulder closures from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday April 19 for striping operations.

State Route 89 (Sierra County) from Sagehen Creek Road to the Little Truckee River: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday April 19 to 21 for miscellaneous work.

State Route 174 – Northbound (Nevada County) from Ophir Street to Central Street: Motorists can expect alternating lane closures on the local cross streets from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday April 18 to 22 for utility work.

State Route 193 (Placer County) from Fowler Lane to Rainbow Valley Lane: Motorists can expect lane closures (one way traffic control) and right shoulder restrictions from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday April 18 to 22 for highway construction.

CARSON CITY — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last week released the 2023 Adult Obesity Prevalence Maps. The maps show Nevada’s adult obesity prevalence for 2023 is 30.8 percent, a decrease from 2022 (33.5 percent) and 2021 (31.3 percent) but still higher than all reported rates from 2011-2020.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife, along with the Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary and Nature Care, are saddened to inform the public that the Davis Bear’s condition worsened substantially since Friday, Sept. 20. Thus, it was determined by Animal Ark’s veterinarian, Dr. Lesli Spears and NDOWs Wildlife Health Specialist, Dr. Nate LaHue, that it was in the animal’s best interest to be euthanized.

A patrol deputy responded to the reporting party and viewed a “screen shot” of the post saying, “School shooting October 10th Eagle Valley Middle School” with 2 gun emojis following the post. The account had on it, “I like to do shootings every single year” with a gun emoji.

Wednesday, Sept. 25, will be a minimum, early release day for all schools in the Carson City School District. Educators utilize this time for professional learning while students have the remainder of the day off. Yesterday, a great friend of mine invited me to join the Stanford Club on a five-mile hike to Galena Falls, led by geologist emeritus, Dave. I have always been fond of rocks, ever since I overheard a geologist uncle of mine assure my aunt while pointing to an eight-year-old me, “That boy’s got rocks in his head.”
