A different "Race to the Top:" Voter registration
Democrats still hold a lead in the total number of registered voters in Nevada, although Republicans hold majorities in 14 of the state's 17 counties.
Secretary of State Ross Miller has revealed Nevada's official partisan scoresheet showing 5,265 residents signed up to vote during the month of March. That brings the total number of registered voters to 1,075,010. Miller said March was the first month that showed an increase after three months of steady registration decline. Republicans registered more for their side of the aisle compared to Democrats, 1,736 Republicans vs. 1,686 Democrats. But that still puts the Democrats in the lead statewide, with a total of 458,218 Democrats to 394,656 Republicans, a 63,562 voter spread.
Miller also reported there are 164,319 Independents, 45,082 Independent American Party, 6,168 Libertians, 3,730 "Other" (including Tea Party) and 2,837 Green Party.
In Clark County, Democrats hold the majority over Republicans, 317,166 to 228,075; and in Washoe County, Democrats were up 91,878 to 90,743.
As is always the case, such a tight voter spread usually spells success for Republicans since they tend to vote in greater numbers than Democrats, especially in the rural areas of the state.
