Tea Parties Were a Reaction to Bipartisan Cronyism
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 08/10/2016 - 9:32amIn our last column, we explained that the financial collapse of 2007-08 was due much to collusion between private banks and government. Congressional mandates required lenders to issue mortgages to people who couldn’t afford them. Then, government agencies would purchase the faulty loans from the banks, thus relieving the banks of the risks.

A summer like no other
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 07/04/2015 - 2:48pmThe summer of 1776 must not have been much different from other summers gone and yet to come: Hot, muggy and miserable for those who had to work out in it. And in 1776 that included most people.
Like any other summer, that particular one 239 years ago was alive with fragrances in full bloom; the sounds of children playing in fields of wild flowers, and splashing about in creeks and ponds where it was cool; young animals frolicking in the fields; men and women toiling in their gardens and on their farms; and the happy songs of birds, crickets and frogs relishing in the summer solstice.
What's A "Republican"?
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 06/08/2015 - 6:05pmThe shameless behavior of the "Republicans" in the recently concluded 78th session of the Nevada Legislature -- their vote for the biggest tax and budget hike in the State's history being first and foremost among their record of mis- and nonfeasance -- and the angry reaction to it by the State Party and the loyal Republican rank-and-file, raise an important question.
What is a Republican? What does it mean to be a Republican? If the RINOs and conservatives are both "Republicans," then the term badly needs to be defined.

A Classical Conservative Speaks!
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 06/17/2014 - 10:31amAt one time, I use to be proud to call myself a conservative and a Republican. I considered myself to be a “classical conservative”, one who believes in limited government, free markets, individual liberty, a strong national defense, and firmly believed that the role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals, and the placement of the individual in our society above that of the collective wisdom of the government.
The brilliance of classical conservatism is, and still remains, in its simplicity.

Ideological ...Purity?
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 03/28/2014 - 3:12pmConsider that in the Republican Party there has been a sometimes rancorous, sometimes healthy, sometimes divisive debate between conservatives, moderates, progressives, libertarians, evangelicals, social conservatives / fiscal liberals, social liberals / fiscal conservatives, "me too but slower" socialists, big-government competent managers of the welfare state, the TEA Party, Ron Paul supporters, limited-government constitutionalists, etc. , at least since the Goldwater-Rockefeller showdown in 1964.
Do something in 2014; rekindle the spirit of 1776
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 01/09/2014 - 10:22pmThe descendants of Jefferson's Democratic Republicans are the conservatives and the TEA Party. The descendants of Hamilton's Federalists are the big-government "progressive" establishment Republicans. Today's Democrats are descendants of Karl Marx.
