Former investigative reporter Frank Mullen to channel Dan DeQuille at Gold Hill Hotel

Journalist Frank X. Mullen will channel a colleague from the past March 3 at the Gold Hill Hotel’s Friday Night Showcase when he offers a presentation on “Dan DeQuille, The Washoe Giant.”
DeQuille was a compatriot of Sam Clemens, aka Mark Twain, when both worked at the Territorial Enterprise in the 1860s. However, unlike Twain, DeQuille stayed on the Comstock for more than 30 years, and didn’t achieve the fame of his fellow journalist Twain.
Frank X. Mullen is a Reno-based investigative journalist, author, university instructor and Chautauqua scholar. He is the author of The Donner Party Chronicles and has appeared as a historian in History Channel series and oter cable programs. Mullen has taught journalism classes at University of Nevada, Reno since 1998 and has twice been named Nevada’s Outstanding Journalist by the Nevada Press Association. He lectures about Nevada history and performs at Chautauqua festivals in several states.
Mullen’s last three Gold Hill Presentations sold out quickly. He will make his presentation Friday, 7:30 p.m., at the hotel, 1540 Main St., Gold Hill. Dinner is from 4-8 p.m. at the Crown Point Restaurant at the Gold Hill.
The event is $25 for the dinner and lecture and $10 for the show only. Reservations are recommended, but not required.
The Gold Hill Hotel, the oldest hotel in Nevada, and its renowned Crown Point Restaurant, are located at 1540 Main Street, Gold Hill, just one mile south of Virginia City on SR 342.
