Weekend crashes in Carson City claim two lives
UPDATE 2:50PM: A single vehicle crash on Friday and an accident involving a pedestrian on Saturday resulted in the deaths of an elderly Carson City woman and a Reno resident, authorities said Monday.
On Friday around 5 p.m. NHP and Carson City sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene of a crash that happened at around 5 p.m. in the southbound lane of I-580 near Arrowhead and College Parkway in Carson City.
The victim of the crash has been identified as Melanie Marnne-Lawson, 55, of Reno, said NHP Sgt. Duncan Dauber.
Marnne-Lawson, a single occupant, was driving a green Dodge Ram pickup. She was going southbound on I-580 when the vehicle crossed lanes of traffic to the left and right, going into the fast lane and slow lane, and then striking a barrier, said Dauber.
She was wearing a seat belt and was taken by ground ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno where she died of her injuries. The crash is under investigation, said Duaber.
On Saturday, at around 11 a.m. Carson City deputies and fire department were called to a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of North Carson Street and College Parkway.
Lillian Joslin, 86, died after being struck in the crosswalk. According to sheriff’s deputy Gage Mead, the woman was crossing at the crosswalk when she was struck by the driver of an early 90s van. She was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center where she died of injuries.
The driver of the van was cited. He told deputies he was focusing on the traffic light when he attempted to make a left hand turn at the light and did not see the pedestrian when he made the turn, said Deputy Mead.
