Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Reckless driver busted for DUI

A 34 year-old Reno woman was arrested Saturday morning at 8:19 a.m. in the area of Gold Dust Way and East William Street on misdemeanor driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol and for driving with a suspended license, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, law enforcement was dispatched to the area of Roop and William streets on report of a reckless driver. A Sheriff's deputy in the area located a parked vehicle in a parking lot further east on William Street matching the description provided by the reporting party (RP).

Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy observed its engine running and a single occupant matching the RP's description asleep in the driver's seat.

The officer attempted to wake the suspect multiple times by knocking on the driver's side window. She finally stirred after almost a minute of the deputy trying to make contact with her, the report said.

When the suspect rolled down her window, the vehicle's radio was turned to high volume and the deputy asked her to turn it down. But she reached instead for the fan and heat controls on the dashboard, the report said.

In speaking with law enforcement, the suspect exhibited thick speech and was unable to provide clear responses to questions. She fumbled to find her driver's license, displaying difficulty with fine motor control, the deputy observed in the report.

When asked for her proof of insurance, the suspect erroneously pointed to her identification and said, "You have my insurance."

The RP arrived during questioning to positively identify the suspect in the reckless driving complaint, the report said.

The suspect submitted to field sobriety testing, which demonstrated signs of impairment, as well as a preliminary breath test (PBT) that yielded breath-alcohol content (BAC) of .147 percent, the report said.

She was handcuffed at that point and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $1,000.

In other arrests:

— A 62 year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday afternoon at 4:25 p.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street on felony possession of methamphetamine as well as on an active misdemeanor failure to appear traffic warrant issued out of the Carson City Justice Court, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

Dennis James Williams was taken into custody following the investigation of a substance he allegedly left inside of a business.

According to the arrest report, law enforcement responded to a report of a substance contained inside a black cylinder and left on the floor of the business.

Upon arrival, a Sheriff's deputy met with security and inspected the recovered cylinder and its contents, which appeared consistent with methamphetamine.

A subject (Williams) still inside the business was identified by security as the suspect to whom the cylinder belonged.

Williams was then located and contacted by the deputy. A small plastic baggie fell out of his wallet as he was attempting to retrieve his identification for the officer, the report said.

A small amount of a white crystal-like substance consistent with meth was visible inside the baggie.

Williams was handcuffed for possession at that point and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $2,500.

— A 63 year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday evening at 7:03 p.m. in the 10 block of Silver Lane on misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence through the Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing (DAS), a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, law enforcement was dispatched to the area on report of an intoxicated subject. A Sheriff's deputy subsequently made contact with the suspect, who exhibited red, watery eyes.

The suspect admitted to drinking alcohol. A records check through dispatch confirmed he was a DAS active case with a no-alcohol clause, the report said.

The suspect consented to a PBT, which showed BAC of .186 percent. DAS requested he be arrested for violating terms of his probation.

He was then handcuffed and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $1,000.

— A 32 year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Carson City Sheriff's Office on an outstanding misdemeanor failure to appear bench warrant issued out of the Carson City Justice Court, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

The suspect had been picked up in Lyon County on the active warrant as well as for an ICE hold, and transported to the Carson City Jail by a Lyon County Sheriff's deputy.

Once a records check confirmed the warrant, the suspect was taken into custody and booked into the jail. Bail: $445.

— A 58 year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday night at 7:09 p.m. at the Carson City Courthouse on an active misdemeanor probation violation bench warrant issued out of the Carson City Justice Court, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

According to the report, law enforcement served the warrant on the suspect upon positive identification and records check confirmation.

He was handcuffed and escorted to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $3,000.

— A 21 year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday morning at 8:31 a.m. in the area of William Street and Saliman Road on three misdemeanor offenses, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said, including DAS violation of bail conditions, driving on a revoked license, and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

According to the arrest report, the suspect vehicle passed a patrol unit on a traffic stop, failing to change lanes and give room to the emergency vehicle.

The suspect vehicle was subsequently pulled over by another Sheriff's patrol unit for failing to yield.

Upon making contact, the suspect was identified and his active status with DAS was also confirmed, the report said.

The suspect was found to be driving within an active revocation period. He was handcuffed at that point and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $3,000.
