What's happening around Carson City and beyond this Sunday

Sunday offers some great options for a variety of interests. Learn about the Nevada State Children’s Home during the 1940s and 50s at a presentation hosted by the Carson City Historical Society. A free concert offered by the Capital City Community Band is perfect for all ages, and your donations will help the all-volunteer troupe cover the costs of their many free events throughout the year.

It was Scarlet O’Hara that said ‘I’ll never go hungry again,’ but it’s the kids that get treated to a free meal at the Fox Brewpub on Sundays (with purchase of an adult’s meal, of course.) Speaking of the feisty heroine, you’ll find ‘Gone with the Wind’ on the silver screen as this week’s Flashback Cinema choice at the Galaxy Theater.

• — Family Day at Empire Ranch Golf Course (Kids play free with each paid adult green fee, one for one)
• — Breakfast and Bowling at Carson Lanes (breakfast served 7:30am-11am, unlimited bowling 9am-12pm; $13, $8 kids 8 and younger)
• — Community Yoga with Allison Reitz at Comma Coffee (9am-10am; $12 suggested donation; beginners are welcome; Bring your mind, body, and mat; a limited number of extra mats will be available)
• — Muscle Powered Weekly Bike Ride - Meet in the south parking lot of Fremont Elementary School, next to the Linear Ditch Trail (NEW TIME: meet at 10am; consists of two loops 10-15 miles long each, this will allow a rider to do 10-15 miles or 20-30 miles – this is a ‘no drop’ ride so no one is left behind; ride pace will vary depending on rider level, but usually about 12-16 mph; All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, helmet, and closed toed shoes. • — Music Jam Sunday at A to Zen: 1803 N. Carson St. (1pm-3pm; we try to keep it simple so that musicians of all ages and skill levels can participate. We welcome music of all genres and styles; Audience is welcome)
• — Official Opening and Dedication of ‘The Tahoe Room’ at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center: 1477 Hwy 395, Gardnerville (1pm-3pm; free admission, light refreshments; Featuring a tribute to the Glenbrook Inn, Snow Shoe Thompson and other historical events at Lake Tahoe. The room will also be the new home to the expanded Van Sickle Research Library)
• — Flashback Cinema: Gone with the Wind (1939) at the Galaxy Theater - Fandango (2pm; $8.50 adults, $7.75 kids)
• — "My Life as a Home Kid" presentation by author, Bonnie Boice Nishikawa in the Forman-Roberts House Carriage House: 1207 N. Carson St. (2pm; free to attend, refreshments served; enjoy a slide show presentation about the Nevada State Children’s Home during the 1940-50s; there will also be a member meeting of the Carson City Historical Society)
• — Pool Tournament at Remedy’s (2pm-5pm; $5 buy-in; APA Rules)
• — Weekly 9 Ball Pool Tournament at Whiskey Tavern (register 1pm; 2pm start; $10 per person)
