KNVC GM to speak at Monday's Democratic luncheon
The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be KNVC General Manager Steve Funk. He will tell the story of Carson's community radio station from its humble beginnings in 2017 to today's diverse programmings that includes talk shows, news programs, serial dramas, and music genres that run the gamut from Rock, Pop, Blues and Jazz to Celtic, Retro, and Psychedelic.
Speaking at a meeting of the Rotary Club in July, Funk explained that because the station is volunteer-driven and hyper-local, it gives the community its own unique voice that enhances its sense of place. “Stations like ours make communities safer, more connected, entertained and informed,” Funk said, adding that local residents provide most of the programming on the station, which strives to engage, inform and entertain its audience.
“We average 16 hours of locally produced programming a day,” Funk told Rotarians. And the station welcomes more. “We encourage people to get involved by giving their time, sharing their perspective and passions by providing unique content, and donating resources to keep us relevant and sustainable.” KNVC airs 24 hours a day on 95.1 FM in Carson City, and around the world at knvc.org.
KNVC will be holding an open house and fundraiser on Wednesday November 29th from 4:30 to 6:30. They are inviting the community to come by for a tour of their studios inside the historic Adams House at 990 N Minnesota Street. They will be serving refreshments and selling raffle tickets to benefit KNVC.
This event is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, November 27th, and can be attended either in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. Steve's presentation will begin after all the lunch orders have been taken, around 1:30. Those wishing to be on distribution for luncheon Zoom links should contact Rich Dunn at richdunn@aol.com.
