The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be KNVC General Manager Steve Funk. It’s going to be a breezy weekend, so you may want to rethink spending the day at the lake. Luckily, plenty of options are available just about anywhere you are. Carson City has a car show and Brewfest hitting the downtown corridor, and to the south, Minden and Gardnerville are having their party of the year: Carson Valley Days. It’s World Doll Day at the Nevada State Museum with special displays, activities, and a special performance by the local Young Chautauquans.

Let’s try this again. Last week, the rain was a little too much for the Westside Cruise, so the organizers postponed it until today. The annual Westside Cruise ia a part of Bike Month, and one of the zanier events. Dress you and your bike up and head off to explore the historic district. Happy one year Anniversary to Battle Born Social. The restaurant and lounge will be celebrating with cocktails, appetizers and more; there is a $20 cover for the event, but that money will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and Carson City Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program.

SILVER CITY, Nev. — Since 2014, Silver City Arts group has hosted music, visual arts, and poetry events and programs. The group draws on the community's own rich resource of artists, artisans and musicians, and also connects with regional and statewide groups to bring programming by national and international artists and musicians. The group of volunteers’ mission is "to encourage the arts, build community, and share our unique town through free, public events." Below are a few highlights.

The title track from Ian Moore’s latest Strange Days, dips back into the psychedelic side of soul and funk music, channeling Curtis Mayfield, Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and P-Funk. Ian's eclecticism is pretty much guaranteed at this point, as he's made it a primary marching order throughout his career, but it's his juxtaposition of this with his classic, soulful singing and fiery guitar playing that make him a totally unique creature.

The Silver State Vertical Drop is an annual ski competition and community fundraising event put on by the Silver State Hotshots, a Carson City-based wildfire suppression crew. Justin Cutler, the current captain of the Silver State Hotshots, began the event in 2008 and it has taken place each year, this year being the 9th consecutive.

The countdown to Turkey Day has begun, and living in Carson City gives us plenty to be thankful for: Beautiful views, our own deer herd, great shops, yummy restaurants, talented actors, artists, and craftsmen, and wonderful people. Get in the spirit of giving with a new tattoo from Hooligan’s Ink to benefit the Austin House. For something less permanent, drop off a turkey at one of the contenders in the Salvation Army’s Battle of the Bars. Giving your time is valuable, too. The Muscle Powered Trash Mob meets once a month to help keep Carson’s trails clean and litter-free.

One last weekend until Nevada Day, and the ghosts and ghouls are coming out of the woodwork. Learn our haunted history with the Downtown Ghost Walk. For thrills and chills, don’t miss the Second Annual Carson Creepy Short Horror Film Competition in the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall. Getting tuned up in preparation of a summer membership drive, the Brewery Arts Center promises an evening of great music and dancing Friday night with Delta Nove.

This American funk and rock, Caribbean calypso and reggae, and Brazilian samba drumming band mixes music from cultures around the world to come up with a unique sounds all its own. This blend of drums, guitars, horns, and electronic colors calls to mind the grooves of Parliament Funkadelic, the horns of Earth Wind and Fire, the diversity of Manu Chao, and the psychedelic improvisation of the Grateful Dead.
