The Michael Furlong Band will rock the Fuji Park Exhibition Hall in Carson City at "A Face in the Crowd," a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers tribute show this Saturday night, March 7. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the band will keep Tom Petty fans on the dance floor until the show wraps up at 10 p.m.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday for the Carson City area and valley floors and noon for Lake Tahoe and surroundings areas in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service. NV Energy today made a rate filing with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) that if approved, will result in an overall $24.1 million rate decrease for northern Nevada electric customers effective October 1, 2020. This is the second rate reduction filed by NV Energy this month.

A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the area of 2nd and Curry on four felony counts including two fugitive from justice warrants for lewdness with a child and obstruction, one count of using a false ID to avoid prosecution, and one count of obtaining or possessing credit cards without consent.

According to the report, Gary Pedrucci was arrested after Special Enforcement Team deputies were traveling south on Curry Street and saw an SUV partially in the roadway for north and south traffic.

According to NHP Northern Command, a fatal rollover occurred just before 10 p.m. Friday night, resulting in at least one confirmed fatality.

The fatal crash occurred in the Northbound lanes of 395 at Johnson Lane in Carson City, which was shut down for the investigation. Two vehicles were involved in the accident, which included a rollover and ejection.

One person was confirmed deceased at the scene. NHP believes impairment was a factor.

The deceased's name has not been released at this time.

The 20th Annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration returns once again to the Sierra on Saturday, March 7 at 9:00 am, at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe.

Snow or no snow, event activities begin with a guided tour starting at 9:30 am with Norwegian native and longboard ski expert Nina MacLeod, who will also give a longboard ski demonstration if sufficient snow is present. Attendees should bring their own snowshoes and cross country skis.

Each year, CVS employees volunteer thousands of hours to nonprofit organizations in their communities. Joanne Dwyer, Director of the CVS Health Foundation, states that the CVS Health Foundation awards grants which supports these efforts and provides additional financial support to the causes supported by CVS employees. Grants, which range from $500 to $5,000, are awarded directly to the organization on the CVS employee’s behalf.

The next meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors will take place on Thursday, March 5, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 East William Street.

Items on the docket for the meeting include an increase in water rates, proposed marijuana dispensary changes in allowed operating hours, trick-or-treating a day before Halloween, and more.

A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 4000 block of Furnace Creek Road on five felony warrants including three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of domestic battery with a deadly weapon.

According to the arrest report, Michael Craig Henson Jr. was arrested on the original crime, which involved the use o a firearm and machete.

On Thursday afternoon Central Lyon Fire was dispatched to a house fire in Silver Springs that left multiple people displaced and one with minor injuries.

After a month of abundant sunshine and above averages temperatures that made February seem like April, the first day of March may bring a return to colder weather and the possibility of snow in the Sierra and even down to Carson City and the valley floors late Saturday into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band and Carson Middle School’s Royal Blue Jazz Band present the 17th annual combined Jazz Extravaganza concert, on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at 7 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. CARSON CITY — Comedy thru the Ages, the 2020 production of the Carson Follies, is seeking actors, dancers, singers and stage personnel for its upcoming show July 10-12. Auditions will be held Thursday, March 5, and Tuesday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive in Carson City.

Carson City’s own community radio station, KNVC, has been quietly churning out locally curated music, news, information and talk shows for about three years now, and they’re only gaining speed as time goes on.

KNVC runs out of the historic Adams House on North Minnesota Street and, at present, boasts 31 volunteers into its broadcasting family.

In celebration of National Digital Learning Day Thursday, Feb. 27, students throughout the Carson City School District, in particularly from Fritsch Elementary School, spent some time to learn online coding programs (equivalent to Javascript) and other coding programs that enabled them to command a robot to move and perform based on the code the students developed.
