Carson City area Sunday weather update: Snow through this morning
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday for the Carson City area and valley floors and noon for Lake Tahoe and surroundings areas in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service. With the return of snow, many chain restrictions are in place Sunday morning across the Sierra and western Nevada.
With snow on the valley floors and Sierra, there's been reports of spin outs, crashes, as well as temporary road closures. Cold temperatures have filtered through with the snow, bringing the slick and icy road conditions, according to the weather service.
Even light snowfall causes major travel delays, especially during periods of high traffic volume. Be sure to allow extra time to reach your destination. Leave extra space between vehicles since it takes longer to stop on slick roadways.
Take it slow, if you need to travel this morning and check with NDOT or Caltrans for the latest road conditions before heading out. Call 511 or see NVRoads.com.
Widespread light to moderate snowfall will continue through the morning before tapering off. This band of snow will make its way south through the day with snow showers continuing through the afternoon across Mono and Mineral counties.
Strong and gusty east winds will develop across the Sierra ridgetops this evening into Monday. Drier and warmer conditions are on tap for the upcoming week with chances for a weaker system by the weekend, according to the weather service.
