Maui Strong Benefit

In an endeavor to aid the victims of the wildfires in Maui, the Nashville Social Club in Carson City, Nevada, is launching a series of fundraisers during the month of August, benefitting the Maui Strong fund of the Community Foundation of Hawai’i.

The first event kicks off this Saturday night, Aug. 12, when NSC will donate 10% of the proceeds from dinners purchased by patrons attending the "Most Wanted: Country Rock Burlesque Show" in the Swan Music Hall to the Maui Strong Fund.

Join Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery in Carson City, in the front yard, on August 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for an artist reception for Jessica Brown. Jessica creates impressionistic oil paintings. Each is an original and signed.

The gallery is located at 405 N Nevada St, Carson City.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting is expected to take place on Thursday, Aug. 17, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The main item of discussion is regarding the Lompa Ranch and Black Stone ranch. Other items of key discussion are listed after the ranches discussions.

A 34-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday at 9:31 p.m. for a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Local teen golfer Luke Swanson qualified to play in two international golf tournaments this summer including the International Management Group Academy Junior World Golf Tournament and the U.S. Kids Golf World Teen Championships.

Both events bring top golfers from around the world to compete in three day tournaments that test both skill and mental determination.

Carol Scott, the executive director of Wild Horse Children’s Theater was one of five outstanding educators from schools and performing arts centers around the U.S. who received the Freddie G. Fellowship.

Carol was flown to New York in July to work one-on-one with Broadway professionals at the twelfth Annual Freddie G Fellowship G from July 13 to 16.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Courtney Warner, who has served as Executive Director of the Carson City Senior Center since 2015. In addition to Meals on Wheels and low-cost lunches at the Senior Center's dining room, programs she supervises include educational lectures, fitness and wellness initiatives, and resources for promoting a healthy, independent lifestyle.

Nevada Secretary of State Francisco V. Aguilar announced the Commercial Recordings Division opened new offices for business licensing and customer service in Carson City on Aug. 9.

The new office is located at the Paul Laxalt Building, 401 N. Carson St. in Carson City. The location across the street from the Nevada State Capitol has been closed and will no longer take customers.

A 61-year-old man was arrested on Thursday at 3:40 a.m. for a felony charge of possession of 15.9 grams of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Due to an issue with the new flooring, Carson City's Catmandu has to push the date for re-opening back one more week to Aug. 25.

The Rotary Club of Carson City will hold a lunceon meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 15 in the Brewery Arts Center's Grand Ballroom to discuss plans for the 30th anniversary of the Annual Luau to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada.

BGCWN CEO Brett Zunino will be the guest speaker at the luncheon meeting and the public is invited to attend.

A traffic accident was reported around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday near North Division Street and West Williams Street.

Traffic is currently blocked by one vehicle and there are at least two vehicles involved in the collision. There are no known injuries currently reported and the damage was reported to be minor.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce the appointment of 10 new principals and district administrators for the 2023-2024 school year on Aug. 10.

Under the direction of an assigned school administrator, a Teacher on Special Assignment serves outside the classroom setting for administrative assignments as determined by the needs of the school district.

The Carson City Intuitive Center has a new class starting on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The EnergyWork Class is six weeks long and just requires you to book online, but walk-ins are welcome too.

A traffic accident was reported just after 12:50 p.m. Thursday near the North Carson Street and West Nye Lane.

Traffic is currently blocked by at least two vehicles involved in the collision. Lane 2 has been blocked off on North Carson and tow trucks are on the way for the vehicles.

Only minor injuries are reported at this time.

A 35-year-old man was arrested Monday, for a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and three misdemeanor charges of driving an unregistered vehicle on the roadway, driving without a license and driving without proof of insurance.

The Carson City School District and the School Board of Trustees approved salary increases for administration in the school district at the Aug. 8 school board meeting.

After the teachers and staff recieved a salary increase on July 25, these negotiations did not extend towards staff not covered by the union and not apart of their collective bargaining groups.

Comstock resident artist program pauses residencies for now

We were inspired by Frances Melhop’s brilliant artist-in-residence program at St. Mary’s Art Center in Virginia City, and Capital City Arts Initiative’s visiting artist programs.

On July 6, 2023, at approximately 8:50 a.m., the Nevada State Police responded to a crash at the location of SR341 & Chamy Drive, located in Washoe County, Nevada.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a gray GMC 1500 was traveling northbound on Kivett Lane approaching the intersection with SR341.

A 43-year-old woman was arrested Sunday for two felony counts of battery on a protected person, a felony count of child abuse and neglect and a misdemeanor for driving under the influence according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Two vehicles were involved in Monday morning crash by the Nevada state capitol building at 101 North Carson Street in Carson City.

The accident was reported at approximately 11:50 a.m. with potential injury, but it is unknown if there are injuries. Traffic is being blocked on North Carson Street.

Carson City Fire Department received a report around 10:20 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7 about a brush fire in Washoe Valley around San Antonio Ranch Road.

Carson City’s 20th annual Jazz & Beyond Music Festival, presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association, offers 11 days of free entertainment and more than two dozen performances.

Two or more concerts will be held each day in multiple venues around the city, beginning with the festival opener on Friday, Aug. 11, from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, on the corner of W. Robinson and Mountain Streets. It features the Andean music of Kantu Inka followed by the 17-piece big band, the Reno Jazz Orchestra, with special guest entertainer, David Hayes. The annual Carson City Historical Society's Ice Cream Social is Saturday, Aug. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum Park, 1207 N. Carson Street, Carson City.

Carolyn Dolan & Big Red will play in concert and Chautauquas of convicted Salem witch, Mary Perkins Bradbury, botanist Agnes Scott Train and early Carson Valley businesswoman Anna Harris will be performed. Historians Dr. Michael Fischer will speak on Basque hotels, and Linda Reid on her book “A Window in Time.” All are scheduled mid-August at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office has released the names of two men who died in Lake Tahoe last weekend.

At this time, drowning is suspected in both cases though an investigation is being conducted and the office is waiting for toxicology and lab results.
