Nevada Humane Society annual Duck Race on Saturday, Aug. 12 at Wingfield Park
The Nevada Humane Society is hosting their free annual Duck Race at Wingfield Park located at 2 S. Arlington St. in Reno on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
NHS is excited to provide the community with this fun way to support their animals in need and make some family-friendly memories.
Community members are encouraged to purchase their rubber ducks at www.duckrace.com/reno before Saturday.
Thousands of rubber ducks will be released to race in the Truckee River at 2:00 p.m. The winner of the grand prize of $15,000 or a brand-new 2023 Toyota Corolla donated by Carson City Toyota will then be announced.
In addition to rubber duck race, this year’s Duck Race Festival will have live music featuring Margret’s Funk Band & Jennifer Grant Band and emceed by JJ Christy, a variety of vendors for pets and people, a photo booth sponsored by Pet Station, food trucks, a beer garden sponsored by BeerNV and The Biggest Little Invitational and puppy and kitten adoptions.
The funds raised at Duck Race help NHS care for more than 10,000 pets in need in Northern Nevada each year. In 2022, 44,000 ducks were sold, helping NHS in its critical work to find permanent homes for animals in the region.
Additional Information:
There will be street closures for the race at Wingfield Park. As typical routes will be impacted, NHS suggests the following alternate routes:
S. Arlington will be closed from Island Avenue to W. 1st Street from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Suggested alternate routes to cross the river will be South Sierra Street going south and South Virginia Street going north or south.
If you have a business in the area, please notify your employees of these changes.
Entry is free for the public to experience vendors, live music, food and drinks, children’s activities and the ceremonial duck race in the river.
