Carson City Catmandu re-opening delayed until Aug. 25
Due to an issue with the new flooring, Carson City's Catmandu has to push the date for re-opening back one more week to Aug. 25.
Catmandu said it's a long story, but they discovered a huge issue with the donated flooring they were planning to use.
It wasn’t going to work. Due to the nature of their floors, abuse by certain cats who shall go nameless, and the characteristics of the flooring and adhesive; it was almost guaranteed to start failing within 6 months to a year. NOT good news!
They looked at several other options and talked to numerous professionals. It looked like it would be weeks to months before Catmandu could have a workable, affordable floor installed. Catmandu said they were resigned to re-opening on Aug. 18 with bare, ugly and unfinished floors.
Then a miracle happened. Anthony at Nevada Custom Coatings contacted executive director, Linda Buchanan on Aug. 6. The big job they were supposed to start was held up due to shipping and delivery options.
They had a week-long hole in their schedule and could do an epoxy-type floor throughout the building for a very reasonable price, if they could start on Tuesday Aug. 8, so Buchanan said they jumped at the opportunity.
From Aug. 8 through 16 they are grinding, filling and sanding the floors and putting down the epoxy flooring throughout approximately 80% of the building.
Catmandu said they had to move EVERYTHING into storage and the 3 rooms that are not getting floors, so it can all be done at once.
The cats are staying outside in the fenced yard and screened porches, with access to the 2 unaffected rooms.
The floors will be done curing and Catmandu can start putting everything back together on Thursday, Aug. 17.
"Needless to say, there is no way we can get ourselves back together and re-open on the 18th," Buchanan wrote in this release. "We’re good, but we’re not THAT good."
Consequently, the re-opening is delayed for an additional week until Friday, Aug. 25.
Catmandu writes, "Wait until you see the place though. It is going to be amazing and worth all the time, effort everyone has put into it. New roof, new floors, new paint, lots of repairs...but hopefully we should now be good for another 10 years."
Catmandu is really looking forward to getting back to doing what we do best: helping and caring for kitties. They also thank the community for all of their patience and support during this time.
"We could not have done it without the volunteers and donations from the community," Buchanan wrote. "Meow! (means Thank You!)"
