The For the Song Charitable Fund, formed by Founding Patrons and fueled by the generosity of the ArrowCreek Community, joins Artown and its commitment to multidisciplinary arts to bring this extraordinary Texas songwriter to Northern Nevada. Jamie Lin Wilson will perform at 7:30pm, July 27 at the legendary Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City.

UPDATE: The Fish Springs fire is contained and controlled. The Sunrise Fire in the Pine Nut Mountains is 60 percent contained as of Tuesday morning, with no fire growth overnight.

UPDATE 8:23PM: The fire in the Fish Springs area was reportedly 0.1 of an acre, while the Sunrise Fire in the Pine Nut Mountains has been resized to 5.3 acres, according to Minden dispatch.

Thunderstorms and heavy rain Monday evening has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Flash Flood Warning for Douglas County and southern Lyon County until 8 p.m.

UPDATE: The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office on Monday said it is investigating vandalism that was done to multiple political signs in the Dayton area and theft of signs in Silver Springs.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and Nevada State Police Highway Patrol were called to a crash Monday afternoon near I-580 on the east side of the intersection of South Carson, US-50 West.

Two were arrested Sunday for felony possession of having personal identifying information such as IDs, birth certificates and passports that didn't belong to them, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

UPDATE: Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Marine units and dive team, along with the Nevada Department of Wildlife, on Monday located and recovered the individual reported missing on July 21, 2024 on Topaz Lake in southern Douglas County.

The next Carson City School Board meeting will take place Tuesday, July 23 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Bob Crowell Board Room of the Community Center locate at 851 E. William St.

UPDATE: NV Energy reports power being restored to most areas in south Carson City and north Douglas County. As of 6:35 p.m. Sunday there were 259 NV Energy customers without power.

Thunderstorms may be behind power outages early Sunday evening in south Carson City and north Douglas County. As of 5:26 p.m. NV Energy reports 2,225 customers without power from multiple outages.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory until 6 p.m. for portions of US-395 including near Topaz Lake and the Tamarack Burn Scar. A Flash Flood Warning expired at 4:30 p.m. for Douglas County.

At 4 p.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Up to 1 inch of rain has fallen. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Motorists can expect heavy rain with water over roadways.

My friend Eric was wondering why his third-year strawberry plants were not as productive as they were in their second year. Last year he had a multitude of large, luscious strawberries. This year, while the mother plants were green and healthy, they had sent off runners on which the strawberry fruits were growing.

A man was arrested Friday for allegedly attempting to run a pedestrian off the road, then threatening him with a metal pipe, and also for allegedly running another person off the roadway where they wound up in a ditch, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

Users of the popular multi-use paved trails throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin and Truckee will find new messages stenciled in chalk along the trails encouraging trail etiquette.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and Nevada State Police Highway Patrol responded Sunday morning to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash with injury on Highway 50 West, around a mile up from the I-580, US-50 junction.

Joy Holt, Director of the Carson City library received a $55,000 check this month from Phil Patton, Treasurer of the Friends of the Carson City Library. Friends is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1966. Since that time the Friends of the Carson City Library has donated its substantial support to many library projects and much needed acquisitions.

UPDATE: There have been a few more earthquakes centered in the middle of Lake Tahoe on Saturday evening. According to USGS, there was a 3.4 magnitude just after 8 p.m., followed by 1.5 at 8:05 p.m., and a 2.8 at 8:19 p.m. The University of Nevada reports several small ones during the day, all under 1.0 magnitude.

Two small earthquakes happened in the middle of Lake Tahoe on Saturday at 7:19 a.m. and 7:49 a.m. The University of Nevada Seismology Lab measured them at 2.34 and 1.9, but the United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured them at 2.8 and 2.5 magnitude.

UPDATE: The fire was knocked down and CCFD firefighters have returned to their stations.

Central Lyon Fire and other agencies were called late Saturday afternoon to a brush fire on the south side of Highway 50 south of the Dayton area.

On Thursday the Carson City Special Enforcement Team conducted a city wide educational sweep to visit all the local glass and liquor shops that sell glass pipes.

Scattered thunderstorms with the potential of heavy rainfall and localized flooding are possible Saturday afternoon and early evening, mostly south of Highway 50 into Douglas and south Lyon counties, according to the National Weather Service.

A 68-year-old Carson City woman was arrested just after 7 p.m. Thursday for DUI first.

The reporting deputy was called to the scene after a second deputy initiated a traffic stop with the woman and noticed the smell of alcohol coming from her person.
