On July 29, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse will host a "Cowboy Challenge:" an obstacle course challenge and family fun day.

Nearly two dozen talented artists are getting ready to paint the town in Carson City this fall. The Carson City Mural and Music festival kicks off September 28th in locations across the city and runs through the 30th.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Adam Keller, spokesperson for Gush Shalom (Hebrew for "Peace Bloc"), an extra-parliamentary organization independent of any political party. The group objects to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, and opposes Israel's policies of blockade and non-recognition of the Gaza Strip. They support a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, with the Green Line as the border except for minor exchanges of territories, and with Jerusalem as the capital of both states.

A crash with injury was reported just after 4:45 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 50 between Carson City and Spooner.

This crash may have been involved in a road rage incident.

First responders are enroute to the scene.

Motorists must use caution or seek alternate routes.

On June 15th, The Carson City Board of Supervisors selected two winners for the Carson City Elections Department “I Voted” sticker design contest. The winning designs, by Laura Licari and Tyler Kerver, will be used for the three elections in 2024, starting with the February 2024 Presidential Preference Primary.

After several months of construction, the Carson City Senior Center is set to reopen its main entrance and serve lunch in the dining room on Thursday, August 3. Doors will open at 9 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The renovation included new flooring, updated bathrooms, and a whole new look to the dining room.

Around 1:40 p.m. Friday a crash with injury was reported in the area of Fairview.

A truck reportedly struck a car, and airbag deployment was reported.

Our chapter includes people from Carson City and the surrounding areas who are concerned about climate issues and want to take action to lessen the impact of climate change. We are a community organization affiliated with Citizens’ Climate Lobby and Citizens’ Climate Education (https://citizensclimatelobby.org/). Our purpose is to develop and implement activities that provide accurate information about climate change and what can be done to lessen the effects of climate change.

Sheriff’s Office Personnel are still recovering from the long, hot weekend of working Night in the Country in Yerington. From the Sheriff’s Office point of view the event went well, and was relatively calm. There were calls for service, and law enforcement actions taken on several occasions. I will issue a complete and detailed after action report on the 08/04/2023 message of the week.

Carson City’s Mazi Squad will be hosting an inaugural annual Summerfest Saturday, Aug. 5.

The Douglas County School Board of Trustees voted 4-3 in a contentious meeting to fire current legal counsel, who has served the district for over 20 years, in favor of controversial Reno-based attorney Joey Gilbert, who has no background in educational law and will cost significantly more money. This was due to current counsel allegedly not supporting the board's proposed move to ban transgender students from engaging in sports according to Board President Susan Jansen.

Gilbert stated that while he is not an expert, he will hire other outside law firms — including the firm the board chose to fire — who are experts in the educational field of law.

Douglas County School Board Trustees are being accused of unprofessional behavior following a recent board meeting during which the board voted 4-3 to fire current legal counsel — Maupin, Cox and Legoy (MCL) — who they say did not readily support their bid to ban transgender students from partaking in sports.

The Carson City Historical Society announces a free Carson City Historical Society East Side Tour on Saturday, July 29, 2023, starting at 10 a.m. This will be similar to the tour that was offered June 24.

The Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division has identified the victim of a July 18 fatal vehicle crash involving a passenger bus on Highway 50 West at Spooner Summit and State Route 28 near Lake Tahoe.

At 2 p.m. a two vehicle crash was reported at the intersection of N. Carson and Nye Lane.

The Carson City School District and the School Board of Trustees have taken a significant step in recognizing the hard work and dedication of its educators and education support professionals by approving pay increases this year and next year. The decision was reached during the July 25 school board meeting and is set to take effect fiscal year 2024 with retro pay going back to the time of the approval.

The Capitol City Gun club postponed our previously scheduled Three Shot Shoot to Saturday, July 29. The event will take place on the Sporting clays Course with pump and semi-automatic shotgun classes. Registration begins at 9:00am with a $50 entry fee per shooter per class. Shooting begins at 10:00am and goes until 4:30pm. Prizes include gift certificates for target packages of 150, 100, and 50 clays. Everyone is invited to come!
