A 43-year-old woman was arrested Sunday for two felony counts of battery on a protected person, a felony count of child abuse and neglect and a misdemeanor for driving under the influence according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Two vehicles were involved in Monday morning crash by the Nevada state capitol building at 101 North Carson Street in Carson City.

The accident was reported at approximately 11:50 a.m. with potential injury, but it is unknown if there are injuries. Traffic is being blocked on North Carson Street.

Avoid the area if possible.

Carson City Fire Department received a report around 10:20 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7 about a brush fire in Washoe Valley around San Antonio Ranch Road.

Carson City’s 20th annual Jazz & Beyond Music Festival, presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association, offers 11 days of free entertainment and more than two dozen performances.

Two or more concerts will be held each day in multiple venues around the city, beginning with the festival opener on Friday, Aug. 11, from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Governor’s Mansion, on the corner of W. Robinson and Mountain Streets. It features the Andean music of Kantu Inka followed by the 17-piece big band, the Reno Jazz Orchestra, with special guest entertainer, David Hayes. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Seating is limited; attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

On August 6, 2023, at 1817 hours, deputies assigned to the Lyon County Jail were conducting routine hourly cell checks and conducting inmate head counts when they discovered an inmate who was unresponsive.

CCHS presents Ice Cream Social with David & Friends

The annual Carson City Historical Society's Ice Cream Social is Saturday, Aug. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum Park, 1207 N. Carson Street, Carson City.

Carolyn Dolan & Big Red will play in concert and Chautauquas of convicted Salem witch, Mary Perkins Bradbury, botanist Agnes Scott Train and early Carson Valley businesswoman Anna Harris will be performed. Historians Dr. Michael Fischer will speak on Basque hotels, and Linda Reid on her book “A Window in Time.” All are scheduled mid-August at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office has released the names of two men who died in Lake Tahoe last weekend.

At this time, drowning is suspected in both cases though an investigation is being conducted and the office is waiting for toxicology and lab results.

The Northern Nevada Dream Center’s 5th Annual Back To School Bash is happening this Friday, August 11th, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Bash will be held at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion at Mills Park in Carson City.

Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo sought to rally support for emergency funding boosting a school choice program in Las Vegas on Friday, while deferring on whether he would support former President Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

Lombardo spoke before dozens of school choice advocates, filling much of the St. Anne’s Catholic School gymnasium in the city’s urban core alongside students, parents and a handful of Republican legislators.

HCC's August public meeting includes two guest speakers

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties meets Thursday, August 10 at 9am, via Zoom (connection details below). The HCC public meeting includes coalition and group partner updates and introductions, discussion of matters of regional importance to health and wellness, plus presentations by guest speakers.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Ron Norton, founder and volunteer CEO of ComputerCorps, an internationally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to providing access to computer technology and skills training for under-served families, while eliminating electronic waste (eWaste) in our nation’s landfills.

CARSON CITY - Brief overnight ramp and shoulder closures will take place on Interstate 580 in Carson City through August as the Nevada Department of Transportation installs and activates new wrong-way driver detection systems.

The Nevada Humane Society is hosting a puppy adoption today, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Carson City Toyota. The six, two month old puppies are available to be adopted today at this furry little event.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Wildlife biologists for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) this morning safely immobilized a large female conflict bear responsible for at least 21 DNA-confirmed home break-ins and extensive property damage in the South Lake Tahoe area since 2022. Her three cubs were also captured in the effort.

On August 3 rd , 2023 around 6:25 pm, a light-colored four door hatchback was leaving the drive through of Starbucks near the intersection of State Street at E. Williams Street in Carson City, Nevada.

The light-colored hatchback turned left from the drive through and ran into the back-trunk area of a black and red Dodge Charger parked in front of Pizzava.

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place Tuesday Aug. 8 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.

On Thursday, August 3, 2023, the Lyon County Board of County Commissioners voted to continue an agenda item discussing a resolution requesting the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to reduce the speed limit from 60 to 45 miles per hour on Highway 50 in Dayton from Fortune Drive to La Fond Avenue.

A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested on several felony charges after attempting to escape from deputies.

According to the arrest report, Duffy Thomas was arrested in the area of E. Park St. and N. Roop St. by Special Enforcement Team deputies attempting to arrest another individual on a warrant when they spotted a family member of Thomas’s.

Carson Pass

The Eldorado Forest Interpretative Association offers free guided interpretative hikes in and around the Carson Pass area throughout August and September.

These hikes vary from 45 minutes long like our historical Devil's Ladder hike to three hours long like our water color painting hikes.

Hello fellow anglers. This report is usually one I do in April or May of each year. Campgrounds and lakes are finally opening in the eastern sierras, and the fish plants have begun.

On June 28, 2023, Lyon County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to 4 Farrell Lane in Yerington, Nevada for a welfare check request on 56 year old Sir Charles Lester. Friends and family reported that they had not had contact with Sir Charles in almost a week, which was very unlike Sir Charles.

It was a record-setting beginning for the school year in Carson City yesterday where a total of 71 new educators reported to the tech center at Carson High for new teacher orientation for the Carson City School District.

The number was more than twice the regular attendance of previous years. The teachers received welcome packets, badges, laptops and other necessary materials and will receive training over the next several days leading up to the first day of school Monday, August 14.

According to the California Nevada River Forecast Center, the Walker River in Yerington and Mason Valley has maintained at or below action stage for over two weeks. Based on the decreasing river forecasts, Lyon County is shifting focus toward recovery and clean up from the recent flood events.

A 61-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 3500 block of Highway 50 E. following a fight between himself and his brother that resulted in several felony charges.
