Services for people with disabilities available across Nevada
CARSON CITY — In light of the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation would like to remind the public of resources available year-round to those who have a disability.
The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law on July 26, 1990. Throughout the year DETR’s Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation works to ensure equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
“We are proud to honor ADA efforts every day,” says Mechelle Merrill, Deputy Administrator of Programs at DETR’s Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation. “We serve more than three thousand people in Nevada and many of our services are free to clients. We hope to keep expanding our programs.”
Disabilities, which cover a wide range of conditions from arthritis to autism, present barriers to employment for a large percentage of Nevada residents. Services offered by the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation help people with disabilities find jobs and help those who are already employed perform more successfully through training, counseling, and other support methods. Services also include helping students with disabilities transition from high school to employment or higher education.
Only clients can access services. Applications are free.
