We are reporting 13 new cases and 30 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 12,053, with 11,454 recoveries and 222 deaths; 377 cases remain active.

UPDATE 4:10 p.m.: According to Carson City School District Public Information Officer Dan Davis, the schools were not put on lockdown because the children had been released for the day at 3:15 p.m., and the sheriff's office called at 3:20 p.m. after students were already out of the building. However, teachers were notified and were asked to be cautious.

A car chase that began in the area of Highway 50 and Crane and ended in the 700 block of 5th street led to Bordewich Bray Elementary and Fremont Elementary School being briefly placed on lockdown.

While the 3rd Street Parking Lot, which has been the Carson City’s Farmers Market’s home for years, gets a facelift this season, the Farmers Market will be temporarily moving to a new home.

An injury accident was reported at 1:45 p.m. Friday afternoon on Curry Street.

The accident involved two vehicles which are blocking traffic.

Motorists should use alternate routes.

First responders are enroute to the scene.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department will be coordinating the annual Fuel Reduction Program using sheep starting next week. This project is also in coordination with the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Nevada Division of State Lands, the Washoe Tribe and Carson Community Council and private property owners.

On April 3rd, Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 raised $440 for the Elks State Major Project.

The Carson City Board of Supervisor’s will be discussing whether or not to issue an order to the Frontier Motel’s business owner for a show cause hearing which could lead to a revocation of its owner’s business license. The city has noted that the motel is a haven for drug use, physical abuse, and numerous health concerns.

Traffic going to and from the south shore over US50 is cut off Friday morning due to a rock slide.

At 5:46 a.m. the report of a slide was received by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

A Toyota 4runner collided into the boulders after the slide occurred. No injuries were reported.

There is no estimated time of opening and no detour. Road crews are going to look at opening Johnson Pass Road but that is still covered in snow and ice. Travelers will have to use north shore routes or SR89/88.

Expect long delay.

The Carson City School District would like to reassure employees there has not been a data breach or leak of information within the school district. There is, however, since the start of the pandemic last year, an ongoing issue of false unemployment claims being filed among numerous employers throughout the state of Nevada and across the nation. This is not a circumstance specifically isolated to the Carson City School District. It appears no employer, business, industry or public agency has been spared.

A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Thursday for suspicion of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm in the city limits and other offenses, according to a sheriff's office arrest report.
