Partnership Carson City’s prescription drug round-up returns at four Carson City locations
In efforts to grow a healthy community, Partnership Carson City is conducting its annual Drug Round-up to raise awareness around the impacts of keeping unused and expired prescription drugs in your household by offering a collection day, Saturday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Drug Round-up takes place at four locations in Carson City:
— Save Mart Supermarkets, located at 3620 N. Carson and 4348 S. Carson streets
— Smith’s Food & Drug Store at 559 E. William St.
— FoodMaxx at 3325 Highway 50 East
“When medicines are no longer needed, it’s so important to dispose of them properly primarily for the health and welfare of others in your own household,” said Hannah McDonald, executive director of Partnership Carson City. “What’s safe to you may be fatal to someone else. Our goal is to teach our community that keeping medicines after they’re no longer needed creates preventable health risks. These drug round-ups are designed to be an easy and safe way to dispose of these prescription drugs.”
This event is designed to protect vulnerable populations in the community through education about proper disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, prescription liquids, pet medications, sharps (syringes) and more. The effort is part of the federal drug round-up initiative. Bring unused or expired prescription drugs and sharps (syringes) in a sealed plastic bag or tin container.
At-home drug disposal kits are also available. The kits provide an option for proper disposal at home and are safe for trash disposal. In addition, medicine lock boxes are available as well as medical and commercial cannabis lock bags — both offered free of charge.
