Congratulations to Carson High School World History, Human Geography, and Economics teacher Nicole Fagundes' Economics students who found a way to turn 8.5 percent inflation into a positive situation. Fagundes’ students researched the factors which determine inflation and the Consumer Price Index and predicted the March CPI of 8.5 percent.

On Saturday, May 7, 2022 at approximately 11:40 a.m., Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Topaz Lake, Nevada for an overturned boat and several individuals in the water.

Walter D. Ratchford, age 89, passed away peacefully at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center on March 30, 2022. He was born in Copley, Ohio, to Walter Patrick Ratchford and Eleanor Elizabeth Reese.

Joyful Noise Carson Children's Choir and the Hosanna Handbell Choir will perform on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 200 N. Division Street in Carson City. Admission is free.

A fatal crash was reported Saturday afternoon in Dayton on Highway 50 near River Boat Drive. According to Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division, a male driver died in the crash and the second driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Despite the gusty afternoon, Wine Walkers took the downtown streets on Saturday to support local businesses while sipping on vino.

The Carson City Wine Walk takes place on the first Saturday of every month, excluding winter.

Just before 1 p.m. a vehicle versus horse accident was reported on Highway 50 and Flint Drive.

Injuries are reported.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes.

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place next Tuesday May 10 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.

Just after 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nevada State Police responded to Costco on report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident.

Just after 10:45 a.m. a rollover accident was reported in the area of Pinion Hills Rd. and Artemisia.

Two people appear to be trapped in the truck that roller, and blood is reported to be seen by the reporting party.

Pioneer Academy keeps on Growing!

When the local and regional Rotary club announced educational grants last year, Mrs. Steinkraus, Science and Engineering teacher at Pioneer Academy (Pioneer), responded by submitting an application to construct a greenhouse. And, in this, her third attempt to procure funding, she received news that Pioneer was awarded a grant that would cover the cost of the greenhouse structure.

Playwrite Neil Simon’s delightful classic “Barefoot in the Park” comes alive later this month in the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall. The Neil Simon play tells the hilarious story of a newlywed couple, he a stuffy lawyer and she a free spirit, and their new life together in New York City.

Produced by the Proscenium Players, Inc, (PPI) performances take place May 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 7:30 P.M. and May 22 and 29 at 2:00 P.M. in the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall. Tickets are available for the upcoming production at www.breweryarts.org.

The Active 20-30 Carson City club is hosting a cash-only fundraiser today, Saturday May 7 at Mills Park with a cornhole tournament and barbecue.

Funds raised will go to benefit underserved children in the Carson City area.

Don Lehr, who spent the past 20-plus years working to restore, repair and reopen the Ormsby House hotel in downtown Carson City, died March 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He was 92.

Mary Carolyn Bangert was born March 29, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Carl Hugo and Alberta (Kumler) Grimm. She grew up in Cincinnati, graduating from Withrow High School and then Wooster College in Wooster, Ohio with a BA in Music.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors approved the updates to the Fuji Park Master Plan during Thursday’s meeting.

An update was presented to the Board relating to the Fuji Park Master Plan, which discussed improvements such as expanded arenas, trails connections, a new playground, pavilion, and stage, and much more.

A 26-year-old Reno man was arrested Thursday afternoon on a failure to appear warrant after a witness called the police reporting the man was sleeping inside of his car.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Tim Hanifan, primary candidate for Nevada District 2 of the United States House of Representatives. He is one of seven candidates on the Democratic side. His rivals include Joseph Afzalk, Michael Doucette, Gerold Lee Gorman, Brian Hansen, Rahu Joshi and Elizabeth Mercedes Krause. Hanifan is the only candidate in that field who hails from the Carson City area.

A traffic accident was reported shortly before 4:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon on E. William near the 99 cent store.

According to dispatch multiple vehicles were involved and will need to be towed.

There is at least one injury at this time.

At 3:20 p.m. a vehicle crash was reported at Washington and Stewart on Thursday.

Injuries are unknown at this time. According to dispatch one vehicle hit a pole, and is blocking traffic.

The 25th annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ceremony was held at the Capitol grounds in Carson City Thursday afternoon to honor the 144 Nevada Peace Officers that have died in the line of duty.

This year, four of the officers being honored died from COVID-19.

A 35-year-old transient man was arrested at a local fire station for DUI, driving without a valid driver’s license, and possession of a controlled substance.

Don Jose’s, Carson City’s newest American-Mexican restaurant, officially opened Tuesday after purchasing the business and menu from the building’s previous tenant, Carson City Joe’s.

Porcelain and white stoneware are the clay bodies used and pieces are made in a traditional manner with a bit of a creative twist.

A 44-year-old Dayton man was arrested for 10 misdemeanor offenses, including suspected DUI, hit and run, eluding and reckless driving, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

Carson City-based greenUP! received a $12,500 Community Fund grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada. greenUP! provides environmental education for businesses helping Nevada cut down on waste, reduce valuable resource consumption and fight climate change in an environmentally safe and cost-effective manner.

The April 23 fatal crash on Highway 395 in Douglas County that took the life of a 22-year-old Gardnerville woman remains under investigation with the driver, who was driving the wrong way and caused the crash, remaining hospitalized for injuries sustained in the crash, according to Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol division.

Donor Network West invites the community to celebrate local kidney and cornea re

Victor Salazar’s health battles began at just 10 years old when he was diagnosed with keratoconus, an eye disease that affects the cornea and can result in vision blurring or loss. During his college years, Salazar’s vision worsened drastically. He also began experiencing unrelated health issues due to an under-developed kidney. Fortunately, he received two life-changing cornea transplants and a kidney transplant between 2014 and 2015.

The Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church is having a fundraiser yard sale Friday, May 6 only, from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are lots of personal items, yard tools and furniture available. Come buy yourself a gift, or maybe find a gift for Mom! The address is 405 College Parkway. Proceeds will help purchase new flooring in rooms used by the Carson City SDA Church Food Pantry.
