‘Barefoot in the Park’ to Debut at the Brewery Arts Center
Playwrite Neil Simon’s delightful classic “Barefoot in the Park” comes alive later this month in the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall. The Neil Simon play tells the hilarious story of a newlywed couple, he a stuffy lawyer and she a free spirit, and their new life together in New York City.
Produced by the Proscenium Players, Inc, (PPI) performances take place May 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 7:30 P.M. and May 22 and 29 at 2:00 P.M. in the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall. Tickets are available for the upcoming production at www.breweryarts.org.
Assistant Director and PPI President Michon Chandler says everyone involved is thrilled about the production.
“Neil Simon was an amazing writer. This play has quirky characters, fast paced dialogue and hilarious situations,” Chandler said, adding the play offers something for everyone. “Just about all of us will relate to the couple as they try to embrace each other’s quirks. Barefoot in the Park shows the ups and downs of newlyweds learning just what it takes to make their marriage work. It's funny, heartwarming and a little silly.”
The play originally opened on Broadway in 1963 and ran for nearly four years. It was made into a film in 1967, with Robert Redford starring in both. Despite being written nearly 60 years ago, Chandler says the script stands the test of time.
“Comedy and romance never go out of style. And after a couple of rough years we can all use some laughter and fun.”
General admission tickets are $20.00, $18.00 for students and seniors and can be purchased at www.breweryarts.org.
