Carson City-based greenUP! receives $12,500 from Community Foundation of Northern Nevada
Carson City-based greenUP! received a $12,500 Community Fund grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada. greenUP! provides environmental education for businesses helping Nevada cut down on waste, reduce valuable resource consumption and fight climate change in an environmentally safe and cost-effective manner.
GreenUP! is using the Community Fund grant to provide green business support for Nevada rural business communities and Nevada tribal communities on environmental best practices that will save them money, help bring about economic prosperity and address environmental justice in these underserved communities.
Donna Walden, President of the greenUP! Board said, “It has long been my goal to work with underserved communities to provide opportunities that typically don’t exist and to level the playing field so that all businesses have the same economic advantage. Funding from the Community Foundation will bolster these efforts and help greenUP! achieve its mission to address climate action in the state.”
GreenUP! was established in 1990 and initially worked on a sustainability calendar to educate the community and help keep all environmental organizations in sync with their efforts.
Since then, greenUP! has taken on several initiatives including managing the Golden Pinecone Sustainability Awards, launching the green dining district in Carson City, and working with Western Nevada College to launch the statewide Nevada Green Business Program and Network.
GreenUP! through its work with the Nevada Green Business Network works with businesses across the state to reduce their environmental impact and take action that will help keep Nevada livable for generations to come. Part of greenUP!’s mission is to support social and environmental justice.
