Carson City arrests: Man jailed for suspected DUI, eluding following hit and run on US-50 West
A 44-year-old Dayton man was arrested for 10 misdemeanor offenses, including suspected DUI, hit and run, eluding and reckless driving, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.
The man was arrested after Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies assisted Nevada State Police Highway Patrol troopers with a crash in the area of US-395 and US-50 West.
According to the arrest report, a deputy was hailed by a driver who informed him that a vehicle hit him and fled. Deputies learned in the investigation that the incident happened at Golf Club Drive off US-50 West. Prior to the collision there was approximately 90 feet of lock wheel skid left by the Jeep SUV, the report states.
The victim described the vehicle to the deputy. The deputy then observed the suspect vehicle accelerating away from the area where the officer was contacted, going southbound at a high rate of speed.
The officer activated his lights and attempted to catch up to the vehicle, which approached Topsy lane. The vehicle was passing stopped vehicles in the turn lane and then went through a red light. The Jeep then turned into the parking lot entrance on the southeast side of Best Buy.
The officer entered the parking lot and attempted to catch up with the suspect driver, who then went northbound through the parking lot, not yielding to the deputy's lights. The Jeep then made a left turn onto the intersecting road near In-n-Out going west, then immediately turned again to double back. The Jeep then pulled into a parking stall.
The officer had the driver turn off his vehicle and show his hands. The driver complied and the deputy placed handcuffs on him. The officer could smell the odor of alcohol coming from the man's breath. The suspect also had red, watery eyes and slurred speech, the report states.
The deputy read the man his Miranda warning and the man agreed to speak. He admitted to drinking and getting into the crash. He advised he was scared and was trying to get away and had saw the officer coming after him, the report states.
The man agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed impairment on all tests. He refused a preliminary breath test and agreed to provide an evidentiary blood sample. He was booked into jail for the following: two failure to appear warrants out of Lyon County, suspected DUI, hit and run causing property damage, reckless driving, right side required while driving, disobeying a traffic control device, eluding, failure to provide information and open container. Total bail amount listed: $7,911.
