Carson City deputies arrest man for driving under the influence, possession of 'a baggie of mushrooms'
A 35-year-old transient man was arrested at a local fire station for DUI, driving without a valid driver’s license, and possession of a controlled substance.
According to the report, Bryan Scott Schmitt was arrested after deputies spotted a vehicle driving on Airport Road with no rear lights and no rear license plate.
Deputies made contact with the driver, who identified himself by his Nevada license, but dispatch advised his license had been suspended for failure to pay child support.
Deputies returned to the vehicle to issue Schmitt a citation for driving with a suspended driver’s license when they smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person, according to the report.
Schmitt admitted to drinking at a friend’s house and agreed to a field sobriety test, which he did not pass.
Schmitt agreed to a PBT which produced a result of .158 BAC.
Schmitt also told deputies that he had a “baggie of mushrooms” in his pocket. Later, deputies weighed the bag which returned a weight of 25.4 grams.
Schmitt was taken to the Carson City Jail without incident.
