Partnership Carson City is looking for volunteers to teach English as a Second Language. Can you speak, read and write in English? Then you can teach English to one to three students and help them use the textbook, stopping to explain or help with pronunciation. It is fun and rewarding!

The Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada has received an $18.9 million grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to expand Internet access to 11 tribal communities in the Nevada, according to an announcement by the Council and Gov. Steve Sisolak.

Carson City Symphony's comprehensive program of string instruction begins the last week of August at four locations in Carson City. Symphony Youth Strings provides free beginning violin lessons for students grades 2 to 5; a beginning cello program, and ensemble/orchestra experience for string students in all grades.

Tuition and books are subsidized by the Carson City Symphony Association and some scholarships are available for instruments.

MINDEN — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team, a volunteer based nonprofit organization, completed another successful summer water safety training series on Saturday, August 20, along with the Carson Valley Swim Center and its staff. More than 100 youth and their parents learned the basics of water safety in and around lakes and rivers. Those trained included junior lifeguards swim lesson attendees, cub scouts, and girl scouts.

As spectators filled the seats last night, Detective Joe Trotter from the Carson City Sheriff's office was getting ready in the pit for his friendly match in the fireman and policeman challenge.

"There are many good firemen out there, and we hope to beat them," Trotter said. "It's good because it's not our profession, it's our hobby. We are here for the love of the sport, and you will see some fighting today for the win."

Carson City Public Works, in conjunction with River Wranglers, Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space, and the Carson Water Subconservancy District are hosting the first annual Carson City Source Water Assessment Day on September 10th from 10am to noon.

This event is geared toward families and kids of all ages.

A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested for driving with an expired license plate and for a felony third DUI.

According to the arrest report, Ryan Wendt was arrested in the area of College Parkway and Retail Drive after the Carson City Fire Department requested deputy assistance with an intoxicated subject.

The 2022 Silver State Art Festival is the fourth annual gathering in Carson City of award-winning gourd artists.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded late Thursday afternoon to a vehicle crash involving a scooter rider in the 3000 block of Highway 50 East near the Dollar General.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with locating 16-year-old Alyssa Hamilton. Alyssa left her home on August 24, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m. and has not been seen by her parents since.

During the Carson City Library’s 2022 Summer Learning Challenge, over 560,000 total minutes were read by participants. This is the equivalent of over 9,300 hours.

The goal for this year’s challenge was 400,000 total minutes read, which was far surpassed.

A 37-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday for felony and misdemeanor warrants and other alleged offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

In an effort to support Nevada agriculture and improve food security for Nevadans in need, the Home Feeds Nevada Agriculture Food Purchase program was established through Senate Bill 370 and passed during the 81st Legislative Session. A rural justice of the peace has suspended proceedings in justice court for a man accused of kidnapping and killing a Fernley teenager until a state judge can decide whether he should undergo a competency examination.

Western Nevada College is pleased to announce that nearly 100 students have qualified for the 2022 Summer Dean’s List.

Carson City BMX had scheduled its annual Race for Life for this Sunday, August 28. The race was to be held last month but was postponed due to air quality concerns. This race raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Singer songwriter Tim Goldsmith will join host Brother Dan Palmer for an afternoon of music, chat, and storytelling as the host interviews Goldsmith about his career and upcoming appearances. The show streams on Mondays from the Bank Saloon in Carson City and gives local audiences an up-close and personal look at local performers.

Beginning Thursday, Reno-Tahoe International Airport will welcome approximately 25,000 "Burners" for the annual Burning Man festival, which starts this weekend.
