ALPINE COUNTY — It has been nearly two weeks since heavy rain fell over the Tamarack burn scar, causing a mountain of mud and debris to move through the town of Markleeville and creating a large hole under SR-89, closing the main artery for vehicle travel.

UPDATE 7:15PM: Truckee Meadows Fire reports at 7:09 p.m. forward progress stopped on #JoyLakeFire. Fire crews are making good progress on fire. One residential structure is lost on Snow Flower Drive that crews continue to work along with air attack.
Fire crews will remain in Galena throughout the evening, mopping up and securing fire perimeter. No injuries reported and the cause under investigation.

Friday, August 26, Alpine Kids Ministries will take a tour of the pit area, and watch the races at Fuji Park Fairgrounds. The Event is a Police and Fire benefit, benefitting local police and fire organizations. Last year’s event was wildly successful in raising over $4,000 for the South Fork Fire organization. With just three concerts remaining, the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series returns Saturday, August 13 with Grammy-nominated blues artist Danielle Nicole headlining the Change Companies stage at the Brewery Arts Center. Opening for Danielle Nicole is the Buddy Emmer Band.

The Kaki King Concert originally scheduled for this past February has been rescheduled and will take place on October 7, 2022 as part of the Carson Valley Arts Council's 2022-2023 Concert Series.
