Reno-Tahoe International welcomes 25K 'Burners' with art, air playa info and therapy dogs
Beginning Thursday, Reno-Tahoe International Airport will welcome approximately 25,000 "Burners" for the annual Burning Man festival, which starts this weekend.
Officials say the airport will see a lot of Burning Man-bound travelers arrive from around the U.S. and 34 countries to Reno-Tahoe International through the course of the weekend as Burners begin their adventure to the Black Rock Desert Playa.
Arrivals will take place through next week, however peak arrival days are this Thursday and Friday, airport officials said.
As travelers arrive, they will be greeted by Paws 4 Passengers and a one-of-a-kind Burning Man art exhibition in Concourse C, curated by Sierra Arts Foundation.
Activities will take place near Air Playa Info, a welcome area staffed by local volunteers dedicated to assisting Burning Man attendees with information, directions and a warm Reno-Tahoe greeting.
The 2022 Burning Man officially begins August 28 and runs through Sept. 5. It has been three years since the last Burning Man celebration.
Burning Man is annual event where tens of thousands gather in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance.
Burning Man is the single biggest event each year at Reno-Tahoe International where attendees bring in approximately $11 million in economic impact for the airport.
