Fan of Gourds? 4th annual Silver State Art Festival returns to Carson City's Fuji Park with gourds, fine art, and more
The 2022 Silver State Art Festival is the fourth annual gathering in Carson City of award-winning gourd artists.
While gourds will most definitely be on display, there will be many other art forms as well, such as painters, photographers, wood, glass and metal artists from all over the Southwest.
The festival takes place Sept. 9, 10 and 11 at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall in Carson City.
On Friday, Sept. 9 the show will be open to the public from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; on Saturday, Sept. 10, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and on Sunday, Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Join in on the fun Friday evening for a glass of wine and early holiday shopping. All of the artists will be on hand to chat, and you’ll be able to learn about their inspiration and techniques.
Organizers are also offering 3 days of classes on how to create art with gourds, how to do a little weaving, make a necklace, wood turn a writing pen, and even tye-dye a scarf,” said organizers from the Nevada Gourd Society. “Our experienced instructors will be sharing their knowledge in many different techniques.”

For attendees who want to have a hands-on experience with gourds, but may not be interested in taking a class, there will be a “Make and Take” booth for adults and children of all ages.
In addition to gourd art, there will also be a large raffle to benefit the Nevada Humane Society with over 70 exciting prizes donated by local businesses and local artists.
All of the funds raised will be matched by the Joseph Kalt and Judy Gans Family Foundation, and there will be no need to be present to win the raffle.
In previous years, thanks to the support and generosity from the event artists, businesses and the community, the Gourd Society has collectively raised $19,650 in donations.
“Even though our festival was canceled at the last minute in September 2021 due to the Caldor Fire, we were able to raise $5,500 for the Carson City Meals On Wheels America program,” said organizers.
While you are “out and about” the weekend of Sept. 10-12, stop by the Gourd festival to do a little early holiday shopping, experience all of the wonderful art and culture Carson City has to offer, and buy a raffle ticket or two to support the Nevada Humane Society.
The Nevada Gourd Society, a non-profit organization, was established in 2016 and currently has over 100 members. Within the Nevada Gourd Society, the Great Basin Gourd Patch represents Northern Nevada and the Pahrump Valley Gourd Patch represents Southern Nevada.
