n August 18, 2022, the Carson City Board of Supervisors (“Board”) approved the recommendation from the Board of Health to recognize that both unsheltered individuals and emergency housing, are critical issues in Carson City and that approximately $1.1 million from the City’s American Rescue Plan Act (“ARPA”) funding be awarded to programs or projects that support the Carson City Housing Plan.

Carson Chamber Singers, a 50-member chorus directed by Richard Hutton, present Changing the Landscape, a program of ten choral works by women composers, on Sunday, October 2, at 4:00 p.m., at Hall Recital Hall, 1338 N. Virginia St. in Reno, and on Friday, October 7, at 7:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 200 N. Division Street in Carson City.

Two people were booked on felony charges following an investigation into a report earlier this month of a stolen vehicle and vehicle fire west of Carson City off US-50 near Golf Club Drive.

On Friday night I walked outside to let the dog out and when I looked up I was greeted by a great horned owl (Bubo virginianus). It was very curious and seemed to have no fear at all. A Carson City jail inmate who was at Carson Tahoe Hospital for a medical furlough was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony escape by a prisoner and conspiracy to escape custody, a gross misdemeanor offense, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

The fire danger level across the forest has been reduced due to recent moisture and predicted cooler temperatures. Effective 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Austin-Tonopah, Bridgeport, Carson, Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge, and Santa Rosa Ranger Districts, and the Spring Mountain National Recreation area is no longer in fire restrictions.

Nevada State Police Highway Patrol division is investigating a fatal crash that happened early Sunday morning that closed a portion of I-580 in north Carson City near the county line.

Here is the Carson City road report for the week of Sept. 26 to Oct. 2, 2022. Closures are expected at the following locations due to road and utility work:

INCLINE VILLAGE — Drivers can expect multiple work zones this week as paving continues on SR-431, SR-28 in the Marlette Creek area receives slurry seal, and a portion of SR-28 north of Sand Harbor gets repaved. Drivers can expect up to 30-minute delays. Traffic control supervisors will be monitoring traffic flow and delay times.
All work is weather and temperature permitting, and subject to change.

The Blue Angels will once again dance across the sky at the Minden-Tahoe Airport’s Aviation Roundup which takes place this year on Oct. 1 and 2.

The Minden-Tahoe Airshow is a bi-annual event showcasing airshow performers, aerobatic performers, military jet demonstrations, and more.

Kids and Horses Therapeutic Riding Center, located at 2869 Esaw St. in Minden is hosting a series of workshops by Connected Horse, a research-based program designed to support people diagnosed in the early stages of dementia and their care partners.

The fall workshops run for two consecutive Saturdays.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is investigating a hit and run crash with major Injury that happened on Sept. 12, 2022 at around 4:50 p.m.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting the first case of monkeypox in Lyon County. The case is isolating at home and does not require hospitalization. CCHHS has investigated and conducted contact tracing. No additional cases have been identified and no other information is available.

Bonanza Kennel Club of Carson City will hold its annual AKC All-Breed Dog Shows, Obedience and Rally Trials at Fuji Park in Carson City Oct. 1-2, 2022. More than 750 dogs will be at the show.
