Have you ever wanted to learn the old art of blacksmithing? Early smiths made wagon parts, handmade tools, shaped ornamental pieces, horseshoes, hinges and just about anything to having to do with working metal into a desired shape or purpose.

The Carson High School community is mourning the loss of a teenage male student who died Sunday. The following is a statement from Carson City School District Superintendent Andrew Feuling.

Six students from across Nevada will take the stage at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts on March 9 to compete in the 19th Annual Poetry Out Loud Nevada State Finals, a national arts education program and competition supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation.

UPDATE: While much of the weekend winter storm has passed, it has left a number of road closures Monday morning across Northern Nevada, including I-580 through Washoe Valley. For those hoping to get over the Sierra via I-80 over Donner Pass, it is now opened as of late Monday morning.

All Carson City School District schools will observe a delayed 2-hour schedule Monday, March 4, 2024. Buses will also operate on a 2-hour delay, so arrival times will be approximately 2-hours later than usual. There will be no Pre-School classes or breakfast served at school.

Carson City, NV – The Carson City Fire Department will be conducting wildland fuels reduction pile burning operations beginning Monday, March 4, in the Timberline area, weather permitting.

As I write this on Leap Day, I am waiting for the big blizzard to arrive. The National Weather Service is warning to expect six to 10 feet of snow above 7000 feet and one to two feet here on the west side of Washoe Valley. They are calling for winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts over 75 to 80 mph here in the valley and 115 mph over the Sierra ridges.

Meals on Wheels Carson City, operated by the Carson City Senior Center, is launching a month-long March for Meals fundraising campaign for Meal on Wheels. The timing of the March campaign is symbolic as it commemorates the historic day in March of 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older.

After days of discussion, a much anticipated winter storm barreled down on Carson City and surrounding counties Saturday delivering several inches of snow on the valley floor and multiple feet at Lake Tahoe and across the Sierra.

The Saturday, March 2 Carson City master plan update meeting at the library has been canceled due to inclement weather. The next meeting is scheduled for March 9.

A major winter storm moving into the Sierra, Carson City and surrounding counties will continue to intensify, bringing heavy snow that will make for treacherous conditions Friday night through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
