Carson City is seeking community input on the city’s land use master plan update. On Saturdays in March, the Carson City Community Development Department will be hosting Master Plan update meetings.

UPDATE: While much of the weekend winter storm has passed, it has left a number of road closures Monday morning across Northern Nevada, including I-580 through Washoe Valley. For those hoping to get over the Sierra via I-80 over Donner Pass, it is now opened as of late Monday morning.

The current big storm that arrived at Lake Tahoe, Sierra and Carson City area brought many feathered visitors to our backyard to scrabble for sustenance under the snow.

All Carson City School District schools will observe a delayed 2-hour schedule Monday, March 4, 2024. Buses will also operate on a 2-hour delay, so arrival times will be approximately 2-hours later than usual. There will be no Pre-School classes or breakfast served at school.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Carson City, NV – The Carson City Fire Department will be conducting wildland fuels reduction pile burning operations beginning Monday, March 4, in the Timberline area, weather permitting.

The strong winter storm that pounded the Sierra with several feet of snow and brought 15 to 20 inches to Carson City and lower valleys, has begun to exit the region Sunday.

Chains are required across mountain passes, while local snow removal efforts are underway across Washoe County, Carson City as well as Lyon, Douglas and Storey counties.

As I write this on Leap Day, I am waiting for the big blizzard to arrive. The National Weather Service is warning to expect six to 10 feet of snow above 7000 feet and one to two feet here on the west side of Washoe Valley. They are calling for winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts over 75 to 80 mph here in the valley and 115 mph over the Sierra ridges.

Sierra Lutheran High School sophomore Anton Granata took top honors at the Rotary Club of Carson City’s annual Youth Music Contest this week.
