Earlier this month, Pioneer Academy students involved with Project Discovery were able to make a field trip to Palisades Tahoe to learn about avalanche mitigation efforts and rescue.

The Carson City School District is asking parents to mark their calendars for Monday, March 4, 2024, when all Pre-K, Kindergarten, new and returning student updates and registrations will begin. This year, in order to be admitted into kindergarten, all students MUST be 5-years-old on or before Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024.

The previously planned Carson City Local Road Funding Workshop scheduled for Saturday, March 2 has been rescheduled to March 23 due to pending inclement weather. The Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee (OSAC) did not take action on the bank stabilization project along the Carson River at Buzzy’s Ranch.

The city purchased the land that consisted of just under 500 acres in 2007 and 2010. Before the city purchased the area, a bioengineering plan was put forward to fix the erosion but it failed. A trail along the eastern boundary of the property was installed in 2020 and a consultant told Open Space that the distance between the trail and the river was expected to be sufficient.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center’s Bristlecone Room, located at 1600 Medical Parkway.
