Rare visitor from the south made its way to Northern Nevada
The current big storm that arrived at Lake Tahoe, Sierra and Carson City area brought many feathered visitors to our backyard to scrabble for sustenance under the snow.
Along with the many usual Junco's, Spotted Towhees, White-crowned Sparrows, was an unusual character.
We consulted our Sibley Bird Guide and sent photos to a few acquaintances whose expertise with avian ID is well documented.
The consensus is a Dark-eyed Junco (gray-headed) whose natural demographic is the US/Mexico border near Texas and New Mexico.
We are thrilled with this sighting and the opportunity to add this little individual to our birding life list!
No bird feeders, we live in bear country!
