Carson City's Hot Spot Yoga becomes Grassroots Yoga Center with new owners
Emilee Riggin and Jordan River, the two new proud owners of Carson City's Hot Spot Yoga Studio, located inside Fitness for Life, are excited to revamp this Carson City yoga location. The new name of the business will be Grassroots Yoga Center.
Hot Spot Yoga has been around for 10 years, operating under various owners, including by Rich King during the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time a lot of fitness centers went on hiatus across the country, according to Riggins. But this little yoga shop stayed open.
"My heart and soul was wrapped up in this place," Riggin said.
During this pandemic, Riggins said no one was really running the shop and there were a few instructors left, including herself as she taught from 2018 to 2022 at Hot Spot Yoga. Then, back in December 2023, Riggin and River had the opportunity to take it over.
"The business was kind of barely holding on so we revitalized it and increased clientele quite a bit," River said. "We have new clients coming in almost everyday."
When the two reopened the business on Jan. 1, they decided to add some events to their schedule, such as their health and wellness open house which is planned for this month.
They also decided to change the name to Grassroots Yoga Center. The name idea was generated out of a discussion with all the yoga instructors because they wanted to make it a welcoming place for everyone.
River said their goal with the yoga spot is to bring people in and help them recognize what yoga can do for their lives.
"Yoga changed my life. It's a lifestyle," River said. "You don't really discover it until you try it for several weeks, but you kind of discover something with it and it changes how you experience the rest of your day. And for several days after."
River said he and Riggin are trying to educate people on mindfulness and give them an even better way to experience life.
"I hope it becomes a space that people can use as a pit stop in between their obligations and their life," Riggins said.
Both owners really want to bring people in to the center and help them feel healthy, as well as comfortable in what they home will become the community's "second home."
"When people think yoga they think of a pose," Riggin said with a laugh. "But for me, yoga is about the breathing ... you're whole mind is going to change. If I can, I want to get the whole community to come together to breathe and be happy."
The yoga center holds classes seven days a week, and they moved away from strictly hot yoga, so there are non-heated classes available. Monday through Friday there are classes at 5:30 p.m. or later for those who work during the day, as well as day-time classes Monday through Thursday. Morning classes are also offered on the weekends.
Grassroots Yoga Center is located at 195 E. Winne Lane in Carson City.
