Sierra Lutheran student wins top honors at Carson City Rotary's youth music contest
Sierra Lutheran High School sophomore Anton Granata took top honors at the Rotary Club of Carson City’s annual Youth Music Contest this week.
Granata, who plays bass guitar, performed a combination of 13 songs ranging from Bach, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and his own compositions.
"I enjoyed creating the transitions for each one so I could move smoothly from
song to song," he said. "Music is just an incredible challenge. It teaches younger people an art form that allows them to express themselves through sound in the same way an artist expresses himself through paper. It opens so many doors."
Granata plans to study aerospace engineering at UNR after high school but says music will always be a part of his life.
"I could never see myself giving it up," Granata said. "It's not necessarily going to be a career in my life, but I take open doors in everything I do."
The Rotary Club of Carson City hosts the competition to encourage young musicians to pursue their musical aspirations and to provide a way for them to showcase their talent. Carson High School Student and piano player Asher Cranston, Home School Student and guitar player Asa Morway, and Carson High School Student and cello player Luna Arredondo also took home awards.
All of the winning students received cash prizes.
