The Nevada Day Beard Contest kicked off at 10 a.m. today at Red's Old 395 Grill in Carson City, bringing the hairiest from around the state to compete for the honor of claiming the best beard in a myriad of categories.

The Nevada Day Committee got it wrong this year. By selecting "My Favorite Nevada Moment" as the theme for 2020, the committee has left people like me out.

Obituary for Phyllis Ann (Annie) Trautwein

Annie was born January 4,1940 in Cleveland, Oklahoma to Jay and Mamie Hart. She attended public schools in Seminole, Cushing, and Stroud, Oklahoma. Annie moved to Sterling, Colorado in 1959 where she met and married Kenneth Trautwein the same year.

Local non-profit GREENevada announced Thursday the winners of the 2020 Golden Pinecone Sustainability Awards, a prestigious annual event recognizing local individuals and organizations working towards a more sustainable Nevada.

The net proceeds of mining tax is based on a 150-year-old formula written into the state constitution. Mineral extraction is taxed at between 2 and 5 percent of gross revenue, less operating costs. Last year that formula produced revenue equal to just 1.6 percent of gross proceeds.

CCHHS is also reporting 29 new cases and 38 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. With Nevada Day festivities rolling this week without the coveted official parade along Carson Street, some have noted on social media their intention to rally their own independent parades.

Lynn Doyal, 73, passed away October 14, 2020, with his wife Janis by his side at their home. Lynn was born in Turlock, California on May 8, 1947 to Jack and Elyse Doyal. He lived most of his life in Alpine County, California.

The Nevada Builders Alliance, owner of the Bank Saloon, has requested assistance by the Brewery Arts Center to solicit proposals from local artists to beautify the electric transformer box located at their property on the corner of Carson and 5th streets. The owners of the property are looking for designs that will go with the established aesthetic of both inside and outside of the bank saloon.
