Carson City's historic east side tour, chili feed at Carson Nugget added to Nevada Day event roster
The annual Nevada Day Chili feed at the Carson Nugget and a historic east-side tour of Carson City are among two new events have been added to this weekend's roster of Nevada Day festivities.
Wearing masks and social distancing is encouraged for all events.
Historical East-Side Tour, Friday Oct. 30, 10:00 a.m.
Join Bernie Allen as he guides you on a 2 mile walking tour of the historical East Side of Carson City. This free tour begins at the Capitol Steps and continues to the location of the former Children’s Home, which was also the site of the 1897 Corbett Fitzsimmons heavyweight title fight. Annual Nevada Day Chili Feed at Carson Nugget, noon to 2:30 p.m.
Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske and Senator James Settelmeyer will continue the tradition of hosting the Annual Nevada Day Chili Feed at the Carson Nugget on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020. Everyone is invited to this free event, held upstairs in the Carson Nugget banquet room.
A limited amount of free tickets are available. Tickets will be available at the Carson Nugget beginning at 10 a.m. with seating times between noon and 2 p.m. Seating times will be assigned. Get to the Carson Nugget early to choose your ticket time. All mandated social distancing and safety guidelines will be in place at this event.
Each free ticket also comes with a gift bag that includes a water, hand sanitizer, cloth mask and $5 Free Play for the Carson Nugget. The gift bag items have been donated by The Carson Nugget, Visit Carson City, Pepsi, NNDA (northern Nevada Development Association) & the Adams Hub for Innovation.
Nevada Day events ahead include a Made in Nevada Film Festival drive-in movies celebration running Friday and Saturday evenings and the "Reverse Parade" on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. both happening at Western Nevada College in Carson City. Music, parade entries and more will be featured during this drive-thru event. And while it's not like the traditional Nevada Day Parade down Carson Street, organizers promise it will be a lively, fun-filled family event.
The same WNC parking lot will also be the site of the Made in Nevada Film Festival drive-in movies on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30 and 31. Movie buffs can take a step back in history and not only cherish several films made in the Silver State, but view them in classic fashion.
Nevada Day events also feature new and well-established favorites such as the balloon launch, beard and rock and drilling contests and tours of the Stewart Indian School Museum. New features this year is a chalk art contest hosted by the Carson City Lion's Club, haunted railbike tours along the V&T Railway, walking tour of the old NSPPS Prison, an arts fair at Carson Mall, and, plenty of food and beverage deals across Carson City's many bars and restaurant establishments.

Official Nevada Day merchandise is available for those wanting to gear up for statehood Day at the Nevada Day Store, open daily, from 10 to 3 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store is located at 716 North Carson Street, near the Nevada State Museum. The store will be closed Saturday.
