The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department invites the community to the 4th annual Carson City BOOnanza. Due to COVID-19, this year’s BOOnanza will be a drive-through event.

CARSON CITY — Western Nevada College and the University of Nevada Reno Extension are among recent federal grant recipients to receive financial packages to make distance learning upgrades and aid in the expansion of educational services in 14 rural counties.

The Bureau of Land Management, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and Nevada Division of Forestry will jointly reduce the current 2020 Nevada-wide fire restrictions, effective for all three agencies by Friday, Oct. 16, until further notice. The reduced fire restrictions will allow campfires in designated campground areas within Nevada.

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums and AAUW Capital (NV) Branch will present a virtual election forum on October 16 beginning at 6 pm. The forums are co-sponsored by NGBN-TV and the Nevada Appeal.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation announced Thursday that nearly 217,500 Pandemic Unemployment Assistance ineligibility claim determination notices will be sent in the next three weeks.

Carson City Health and Human Services reports Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020 that there are 23 new cases and 22 additional recoveries in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,539, with 1,359 recoveries and 19 deaths; 161 cases remain active.

On Thursday, Oct. 15, Carson City Toyota will host the second “Drive by Donation” Food Drive to benefit Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, which gives support to families and people in need by providing food, instruction, shelter and health care.

The Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West has received a grant in the amount of $115,000 from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety to support law enforcement’s participation in the Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns during the coming year.

Nevada Health Center in Carson City is hosting a drive-thru flu clinic today, Wednesday, Oct. 14. The clinic is from 1 to 4 p.m. in the northeast parking lot of Nevada Health Centers, 3325 Research Way, Carson City.

The Carson City Republican Headquarters was hit, yet again, with vandalism. The Sheriff's office responded quickly and have evidence of the vandal and we hope that they are discovered or found. This isn't the first time as the office has had tagging on US Flag desecration.

While the seat for Ward 2 will be filled following the election on Nov. 4, another seat is open and will be filled by appointment.

The seat for Ward 3 is currently held by Supervisor Lori Bagwell, who will be vacating now that she has been elected Carson City’s mayor.

Rapid detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, in about 30 seconds following the test, has had successful preliminary results in Mano Misra’s lab at the University of Nevada, Reno. The test uses a nanotube-based electrochemical biosensor, a similar technology that Misra has used in the past for detecting tuberculosis and colorectal cancer as well as detection of biomarkers for food safety.

The woman who died in Lake Tahoe on Friday in an apparent drowning has been positively identified as a 30-year-old El Paso, Texas resident.

A 37-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday for suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon and parole and probation violation, a Carson City sheriff's booking report states.

CARSON CITY — V&T Railway is celebrating Halloween with family-friendly and spooky railbike rides. Running Friday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 31, V&T Railway will offer children and adult focused haunted railbike rides at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.

The First Judicial Court Felony DUI Program announced Monday it has received $22,250 in grant funding for the 2020-2021 fiscal year from Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety.
