The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating an active, suspicious death behind the Home Depot near Topsy Lane as of 9:30 p.m. Friday night.

On Twitter, DCSO said they do not believe there is a threat to the public but they are asking people to please, avoid the area.

On Friday, the Department of Corrections announced that Carson City's Warm Springs Correctional Center is currently on lockdown due to 93 inmate COVID-19 cases, as well as 7 staff COVID-19 cases.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Thursday evening to a fire at an apartment complex in the 500 block of East Long Street. Firefighters quickly knocked it down. No injuries were reported.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department opened three new segments of trail following an Oct. 30 ribbon cutting. Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Wednesday morning to a vehicle crash involving a bicycle rider in the area of William Street near Mills Park.

A strong storm will push through the Sierra and western Nevada beginning Friday into the weekend, bringing gusty winds, much colder temperatures and chances for rain and snow showers, according to the National Weather Service.
