A 35-year-old woman was booked Wednesday for two misdemeanor counts of contempt of court after making phone calls while in jail to a person she was ordered by the court not to contact, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

The Northern Nevada Dream Center’s 4th annual Back To School Bash is happening this Saturday, August 20 from 4 to 6 pm. In partnership with Lifepoint Church and Shine A Jesus Church, the Bash will be held at Fuji Park at 601 Old Clear Creek Road in Carson City.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding a stolen truck taken from the area of State Street and Handelin Road in Carson City on Monday, August 15, 2022.

The new Carson City Panera will officially open in the beginning of October following some build delays.

According to a spokesperson for Panera, the estimated opening is set for Oct. 10, but it has not been finalized at this time.

Members of the Carson City Host Lions Club will provide free vision screening to children at the Northern Nevada Dream Center’s 4th annual “Back to School Bash” on Saturday, August 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Fuji Park. Lions from the Dayton Valley Lions Club will be assisting.

Rex T. Baggett, MD passed away in his home on July 20, 2022, after a lengthy illness. He was active in many medical organizations in northern Nevada, including FISH, where he volunteered his services for years.

The Carson City Cinema Club presents “Destry Rides Again” (1939) on Tuesday, September 6 at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall (511 West King Street-the old Catholic church).

A joint meeting Tuesday between the Open Space Commission and the Parks and Recreation Commission was held regarding an issue of whether or not to allow painted “kindness” rocks on Carson City parks and trail areas.

The issue came about after a private citizen took it upon themselves to remove hundreds of rocks along a paved or “hardscaped” section of the V&T Trail, claiming they believed them to be akin to graffiti.

A man who caused a disturbance at a South Carson Street business Tuesday was arrested for suspicion of felony possession of credit cards withouts the holder's consent and other offenses.

A joint meeting Tuesday between the Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission and the Open Space Commission voted on new dog ordinances, including allowing dogs at some previously prohibited areas, prohibiting off-leash dogs from certain trails and open space areas, and regulating where off-leash dogs can recreate.

Donor Network West hosted a special remembrance event to honor the legacy of Elizabeth “Lizzy” Hammond, which gathered family, friends and caregivers at Fianna’s Healing Garden at Renown Regional Medical Center.

A very large bear was seen Tuesday morning running around the Arrowhead, Bowers and Sunrise area of Carson City. The Nevada Department of Wildlife has been notified. Residents should leave the bear alone, bring their children and pets indoors and not get anywhere near him or her.

Bear sightings are unusual along the east side of Carson City and usually are far more common on the west side.

A 34-year-old man was arrested Monday for suspicion of misdemeanor embezzlement, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

UPDATE: The suspect, Jason Day, 48, was arrested for grand theft auto and two counts each of kidnapping and child endangerment. According to KOLO, when Day’s vehicle was stopped he told officers he left the children in the back at the nearby Holiday Inn Express.

Two women were arrested Sunday for suspicion of battery and obstruction after a waitress at a restaurant inside a south Carson Street casino was slapped in the face, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

ALPINE COUNTY — It has been nearly two weeks since heavy rain fell over the Tamarack burn scar, causing a mountain of mud and debris to move through the town of Markleeville and creating a large hole under SR-89, closing the main artery for vehicle travel.

Truckee Meadows Fire reports via Twitter Sunday evening that a brush fire, dubbed the Joy Lake Fire, is spreading and has burned 3 acres with multiple structures threatened in the southern portion of Galena Forest.

Another monsoon moisture surge will bring a return of thunderstorms to the Carson City, western Nevada and Sierra front region this week, with the potential for flash flooding, new fire starts and strong outflow winds, according to the National Weather Service.

After a postponement last month, NAMI Western Nevada's Open House and Art Show is back on this week, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at its Carson City office.

Milkweed is the host plant for monarch butterflies. It is the only plant on which they lay eggs and it is the sole food source for their larval form/caterpillars.

“Without milkweed, the larva would not be able to develop into a butterfly," says the U.S. Forest Service.
