Carson City arrests: Jail inmate booked for violating order not to contact alleged victim
A 35-year-old woman was booked Wednesday for two misdemeanor counts of contempt of court after making phone calls while in jail to a person she was ordered by the court not to contact, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.
The woman, an inmate at Carson City Jail, was ordered not to have contact with her alleged victim whether in person, writing, by telephone, by way of a computer, through a third party or from a detention facility.
Carson City Sheriff's Office learned the woman attempted to contact the victim using her and other inmates' phone accounts a total of six times, with the woman being successful in two of those attempts while using other inmates' phone accounts.
During the first successful call the woman spoke with the alleged victim approximately 11 minutes, asking them to speak with the district attorney to have her burglary charges dropped. During the second successful call, the alleged victim and suspect spoke for approximately 2 minutes, according to the report.
A sergeant and deputy spoke with the suspect in the booking area of the jail, and interviewed her with the deputy activating their body camera. The woman was read her Miranda warning and admitted speaking with the alleged victim twice. The officers asked if she knew she was in violation of the facility rulebook by using another inmate's phone account. She replied yes. Bail: $6,000 cash.
— A 50-year-old man, Randal Wayne Carsten, was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $3,637.
— A 35-year-old Silver Springs woman was arrested Wednesday for a misdemeanor warrant out of Sparks Municipal Court and for having expired registration, also a misdemeanor offense. Bail: $1,462.
— A 30-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of second DUI, basic speeding and no proof of insurance. According to the booking report, a deputy with a radar observed a vehicle on Stewart Street near Wright Way going 52 mph in a 35 mph zone.
The deputy made a traffic stop in the 2300 block of South Carson Street and contacted the driver. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver, who also had red watery eyes and slurred speech. The man advised he drank "at least two beers," the arrest report states.
The man agreed to submit to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. At jail he submitted to evidentiary blood tests. Bail: $3,491.
— A 47-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for a misdemeanor warrant alleging duty upon damaging an unattended vehicle or other property. Bail: $250.
