Carson City area weather: Another round of thunderstorms this week
Another monsoon moisture surge will bring a return of thunderstorms to the Carson City, western Nevada and Sierra front region this week, with the potential for flash flooding, new fire starts and strong outflow winds, according to the National Weather Service.
Each day Tuesday through Thursday, most areas will have a 20 to 40 percent chance of seeing a storm, NWS forecasters said. Storms are most likely in the afternoons and evenings, but overnight showers and storms are possible.
Impacts will range from lightning, new fire starts, and strong outflow winds with blowing dust, to periods of heavy rainfall and flash flooding, especially in wildfire burn scar areas and steep terrain," forecasters said. It is too soon to project which hazards will be dominant so be prepared for any of these scenarios.
The weather service advises people should have a way of receiving alerts on your phone. If you have outdoor activities or projects planned this week, try to get them done in the mornings before storms develop. If you live in a flash flood prone area, especially near a burn scar, be ready to act quickly if heavy rainfall occurs.
Thunderstorm chances look to drop off beginning Friday as a trough directs dry, southwest flow over our region. This pattern may persist through early next week.
Daytime highs around the Carson City, Carson Valley and Lyon County areas will be in the low to mid-90s Monday through Thursday. Around the Lake Tahoe Basin, highs will be around 80 through Thursday.
