Sand Harbor State Park to host August 16 Tahoe Summit; park closed to visitation during event
Sand Harbor State Park will be closed Tuesday, August 16 for the Lake Tahoe Summit from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. During the closure, only those attending the summit may enter the park.
Visitors interested in attending the summit can register here. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and the program begins at 10 a.m.
The East Shore Trail will remain open from Tunnel Creek to the Sand Harbor Boat Ramp; however, there will be no access to enter Sand Harbor via the trail. Kokanee Bar and Grill and Clearly Tahoe Rentals will also be closed.
White House National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy will give the keynote address at the summit, hosted by U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen of Nevada.
McCarthy, who is tasked with coordinating the Biden administration’s domestic climate agenda, previously served as President and CEO of the Natural Resources Defense Council and Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the Obama Administration.
This year’s summit theme is “Protecting Lake Tahoe’s Future,” and it will be a chance to reflect on the progress made to restore the Tahoe Basin over the last two decades, discuss current challenges that the surrounding communities face, and find ways to preserve and protect Lake Tahoe in the years to come.
