I’ll never forget the day Mrs. McQuitty appeared in our driveway. She climbed out of an old white Ford, and I’ve never liked Fords since. It was a Monday, and I’ve never liked Mondays since. I didn’t want to take piano lessons, but my parents made me. At 10 years old, all I wanted to do was to go swimming, and besides, piano lessons were for girls.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is holding its first open house at the historic Wungnema House since before the pandemic this Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Wungnema House is the stone building on the east side of Mills Park across from the high school, off Saliman Road. Admission is free.

The two capital city teams are the Carson Senators JV Cheer Squad and the Carson City Pop Warner PeeWee Senators cheer team.

The Carson Senators JV Cheer Squad have conquered both their local and regional competitions, and have set their sights on the JAMZ Nationals in Las Vegas.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Board Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

After supply chain issues during the pandemic caused widespread shortages, retailers now find themselves with the opposite problem: excess inventory. With 21 percent more inventory than they had a year ago (equaling a whopping $732 billion), many retailers are worried their profit margins are about to take a hit.

Veterans again have a place they can call “home” on the Western Nevada College campus in Carson City.

The Veterans Resource Center in the Cedar Building has reopened. In the past, the center has helped many veterans transition from the military to civilian life through higher education. They have received VA resources information, education assistance, benefits consultation, work study opportunities, and more.

Nevada Rural Housing announced it is accepting holiday gift donations for the residents of the Richards Crossing apartment complex in Carson City. Richards Crossing, a 38 single-family unit affordable housing development by NRH, is home to the formerly homeless, displaced veterans and extremely low-income. The donation list will provide residents with essential items around the holiday season, such as gloves, hats and toiletries.

Carson City Symphony’s Youth Strings will present a free concert, “Old Friends, New Friends,” on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St., Carson City.

On Friday, Nov. 18, Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 members Marian and Frank Furnari presented a check for $1,500 to Courtney Warner, director of the Carson City Senior Center.
