Friends To All Senior Santa Visits

Friends to All is dedicated to bringing joy, cheer and friendship to seniors in our community during the holiday season.

Since 1999 this group has been working to meet the needs of those with limited financial resources who are home bound or in care centers with little or no family nearby.

Are visions of snowflakes, bonbons, and sugarplum fairies dancing in your head? Then bring your family to Nevada Dance Company’s 33rd Annual Nutcracker Ballet this Thanksgiving weekend.

This Northern Nevada holiday favorite will include four magical performances with professional dancers as well as local dancers running November 25th through November 27th.

UPDATE 8:58 p.m.: The 3400 block of Harvard Drive has now been secured and residents no longer asked to shelter in place.

According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, one person has been detained and no injuries occurred.

The investigation is ongoing.

Artisans and volunteers have been working hard throughout the year, creating some very special projects to choose as a reminder there are many empty bowls in our community.

Empty Bowls takes place Friday, Dec. 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. inside the Carson Mall.

The cost to attend is a $15 donation which includes a special handmade bowl and dinner.

All proceeds benefit the FISH Food Bank and Family Dining Room in Carson City.

Moving in the “Write” Direction

For some students, moving can be exciting and something to look forward to, for others moving can present barriers that are challenging to work through. Rogan Stryffeler, a full time online student at Pioneer Academy experienced one of her most challenging times as a high school student, she had to move across the country to a new high school just before she started her senior year.

To Rogan, the thought of uprooting and starting over, again, was daunting and stressful. She was concerned about how she would manage her new school, work, life balance and maintain her success.

Carson City students recognized and honored military men and women this week with Veteran’s Day displays and events.

Veterans from all branches of military service, as well as families of students, were esteemed with songs of praise and gratitude, flag ceremonies and memorial displays at events Wednesday and Thursday.

Veteran's Day is a time to honor our fellow Americans who have served their country and their communities by dedicating themselves to our nation's military.

This weekend, there are a number of events aimed to do just that.

The Seventh Annual Teacher Rivalry Volleyball Game and canned food fundraiser involving educators from Carson High School and Douglas High School was hosted last night at Carson High School.

In total the event raised more than $1,500 and collected nearly 400 canned food items.

Lyon County residents voted in favor of providing additional staffing to fire stations in the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District.

With the National Weather Service forecast calling for two to four feet of snow expected by Wednesday above 7,000 feet and ideal temperatures for snowmaking operations to be in full swing, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe announced Monday its plans to open this Friday, Nov. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 13 for skiers and riders to make their first turns of the season.
