Carson City Library has extended its technological reach by implementing extensive technology training in Lyon County through librarian-led training and workshop offerings that will improve digital literacy skills to all potential users in the region.

Western Nevada College will offer a hospitality skills workshop on Saturday, Feb. 8, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Carson City. Participants can learn guest service skills in the Guest Service Gold Workshop, to become a more valuable employee in today’s competitive job market.

Completion of the three-hour workshop can lead to a Certified Guest Service Professional designation. For employees in the hospitality industry, CGSP is recognized worldwide and is the highest designation of award-winning guest service.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications now through Feb. 14 from individuals interested in serving on The Board of Appeals with expertise in the categories of General Contractor and Registered Architect.

There is one opening in each of the categories, each for a term that expires in January 2016. Applicants should be aware this Board may require a minimum commitment of up to five hours a month.

Two public workshops will be held today at Fuji Park Exhibit Hall in Carson City. The workshops are designed to answer questions and hear comments regarding a proposed 1/8th-cent sales tax to fund several infrastructure projects.

A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Jan. 18, 1:31 a.m. in the area of North Carson and East Park Street. He faces a felony charge of child endangerment and a misdemeanor charge of DUI.

According to the arrest report, an officer doing routine patrol on North Carson Street at Hot Springs Road observed a silver in color Dodge Durango without a license plate. The officer turned on his overhead emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop at North Carson Street and East Park Street.

With the lack of ice and snow on the roadways and sunny days ahead, we are seeing an increase in motorcycle, scooter and bicycle traffic on the roadways around Carson City.

This increases the chances of crashes on these modes of transportation as most drivers do not expect them to be out and about this time of year.

Remember, due to their size and design, they are difficult to see when sharing the roadway with larger vehicles. As a motorist, you should be always aware of the traffic around and ahead of you.

An 88-year-old Minden man accused of shooting his wife at a Carson City hospital on Sunday told the arresting officer that he put four bullets in a handgun with the intent of killing the woman and himself, saying she had recently become paralyzed in an accident.
