An earthquake near Virginia City registered a magnitude 3.2 on the Richter scale shortly before 8:30 this morning. The epicenter was recorded to be about nine miles northeast of Virginia City, according to the Nevada Seismological Laboratory website.
Thus far there are no reports of any damage or injuries.

The Carson City District Attorney's Office filed a criminal complaint late Monday accusing a fired state employee who led a public attack campaign against state and local officials, of solicitation to commit murder of Carson City Justice of the Peace John Tatro.

As part of the lawsuit to decide marriage equality in Nevada, the plaintiffs filed suit against the State, Carson City, Clark County and Washoe County. Clark and Washoe counties refused to defend the lawsuit. The State and Carson City prevailed at the Nevada Federal District Court level. As a result, the plaintiffs appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

UPDATE TUESDAY 9AM: The search continues this morning for a man who led Carson City sheriff's deputies on a vehicle chase near the Prison Hill area. Both detectives and deputies continued the search and the investigation overnight and into this morning.

The suspect allegedly broke into two homes, stole several weapons and other property and fled. A woman walked in on the suspect as he was stealing guns from her home and gave authorities a description of the vehicle the man was seen driving.

If predicted rain and snow arrives this week, U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will resume prescribed fire operations in several locations around the Lake Tahoe Basin beginning Tuesday.

Burning will take place on the South Shore in the Luther Pass Campground off of Highway 89 S, on the West Shore off of Bunker Drive near Tahoe City and off of Chalet Road near Alpine Meadows ski area, and on the East Shore off of Easy Street on Lower Kingsbury Grade. Burning may continue through the weekend, weather, staffing, and conditions permitting

The National Junior College Athletic Association has named Western Nevada College to its Top 20 preseason baseball poll.

WNC's Carson City team is ranked 14th in the poll, which was released on Monday. Earlier this year, the Wildcats were rated 16th by College Baseball Newspaper in its preseason poll.

A Carson City man was arrested Sunday and faces a felony charge of domestic battery with strangulation.
Jermaine Jordan, 28, is being held on $18,137 bail.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 400 block of East Park Street for a fight in progress. While responding, dispatch advised there was a man outside a unit hitting a woman in the head.

CARSON CITY – Many Nevada employers will see a small increase in the premiums they pay for workers’ compensation insurance this year.

The average premium increase in the voluntary market will be about 3.2 percent. Nevada employers who purchase their workers’ compensation insurance in the assigned-risk market will see an average increase of 3.3 percent. Both increases will take effect on March 1, 2014.

Substitute teachers can learn insight into providing a more successful classroom environment for their students through two hands-on classes offered this spring at Western Nevada College in Carson City.

Management Methods for Substitutes (EPD 276) helps substitute teachers develop strategies to provide an improved learning environment for not only their students but for themselves. The class meets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 and 15 and is taught by Dr. Michelle Rousselle.
