The Carson City Host Lions Club hosted the Annual Kids’ Fishing Day at Baily Pond in Fuji Park on Saturday, May 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event provided a good opportunity to introduce kids under the age of 12 to fishing and conservation. The Boy Scouts of Troop 33 and volunteers from the Douglas County Kids Fishing Derby helped prep the fishing poles and gear for the kids. About 75 children and their families attended.

Carson City's 'Cross Creek' Saliman development unveils new model homes; builds begin at $560,000

Local home builder Ryder Homes announces the grand opening of their four new model homes and sales center at Cross Creek, a new community in Carson City.

Cross Creek features five different floor plans ranging in size from approximately 1,800 to 2,900 square feet, with prices starting in the mid-$500,000s. The first phase of new homes are now under construction, and the first homeowners are expected to move-in this May.

Community Members Are Invited to Bowl for a Good Cause and the Chance to Win a $10K Grand Prize

Donor Network West invites northern Nevadans to the National Bowling Stadium at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19 for ‘Spare a Life,’ a family-friendly fundraising event with bowling, food, prizes and fun that supports a great cause. The inaugural ‘Spare a Life’ event will fund education, outreach and research efforts for organ donation. Plus, attendees can participate in a strike contest for a chance to win a $10K grand prize, sponsored by the Reno + Sparks Chamber of Commerce, if they bowl 10 strikes in a row.

Carson City Leadership class finishes $70K improvement project at Eagle Valley Children’s Home

The Carson City Leadership Institute Class of 2022 raised more than $70,000 for the Eagle Valley Children's Home, nearly tripling their original funding goal of $25K. The 15 students of the Class of 2022 used the funds to improve the residential program’s outdoor patio and add a new sensory garden for residents and visitors.

Victor Salazar’s health battles began at just 10 years old when he was diagnosed with keratoconus, an eye disease that affects the cornea and can result in vision blurring or loss. During his college years, Salazar’s vision worsened drastically. He also began experiencing unrelated health issues due to an under-developed kidney. Fortunately, he received two life-changing cornea transplants and a kidney transplant between 2014 and 2015.

The Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church is having a fundraiser yard sale Friday, May 6 only, from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are lots of personal items, yard tools and furniture available. Come buy yourself a gift, or maybe find a gift for Mom! The address is 405 College Parkway. Proceeds will help purchase new flooring in rooms used by the Carson City SDA Church Food Pantry.

Nevada Day Golf Tournament hits the green Saturday at Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City

The annual Nevada Day Golf Tournament was held Saturday with several teams coming out to support the silver state’s biggest celebration.

Over 25 teams signed up to support this annual event, which provides a portion of the funds raised to the high school bands throughout the state to assist with their travel to the Nevada Day Parade in October, while the remainder of the funds supports the Nevada Day Parade.

Northern Nevada’s Organ Donors Remembered at Candle Lighting Ceremony

Donor Network West, the federally designated nonprofit organ procurement organization (OPO) for northern Nevada and northern California, and Renown Health Spiritual Care hosted a candle lighting ceremony in remembrance of organ donors in front of the LOVE sculpture at Renown Regional Medical Center. To close out National Donate Life Month, the ceremony included a moment of silence, a poem-reading and the chance for attendees to write notes of gratitude to honor organ donors.
